I have one Buff Brahma that is the lowest on the pecking order in my flock. However she is already 26 weeks and has not started to lay. When can I expect to see and egg? Will she be delayed because she is picked on? Thanks!
Our first egg ever, from August 2012, laid by our Buff Orpington
and this is the first from our Amerucana who laid for the first time on Feb 1st 2013 (way behind he littler mates!)
No wounds that I found and I made sure to clean well after I took her out of the coop. Thanks for the reply, it is tough not knowing why, harder will be telling my daughter as this one was hers. :(
I have a flock of 6 birds (well now 5) 3 that are al little over a year and three that are 13 weeks. This morning when I went to collect eggs and change the water one of the 13 week olds was dead on the floor of the coop. She was a Barred Rock and seems fine yesterday, they all free range in my...
One of my little girls (she is about 12 weeks old) got her leg stuck in the roost last night (or this morning). I have a slat type roosting area made of 1x2s. I am not sure how her leg got through as I had to unscrew the slat to get her unstuck. She was able to hobble off from me into another...
We originally got them for eggs and because we cannot have indoor pets (my son is very allergic) but now I love them for entertainment! They are so much fun to watch and I love to hear them sing about their eggs. :)
This morning when we let our chickens out to free range my son noticed that our Buff Orpington was bloody on her beak. It looks like a part of the top of the beak has chipped off. What do I do? She seems her mellow self and already laid an egg this morning. I tried to clean it up a bit.
I had...
I do give them kitchen scraps, almost every day and I let them out of the coop/run to free range as much as possible. I am an Urban chicken keeper so it is not always possible to give them as much time out as possible. I wil ltry giving them more treats and things to do.
So far there has not...
I have four hens, all the same age that have done very well together for about a year but recently my Wyandotte has started pecking my Ameraucana (who is much smaller than the other three). The Ameraucana is almost bald from all the pecking. I separated the Wyandotte in a small dog crate inside...
Hi Redsoxs, I am thinking of getting rid of the bully. I love the Ameraucana, she is sweet and friendly and lays blue eggs! The bully wants nothing to do with me or my kids so I don't think we would miss her. We are getting two new girls in a few weeks - a local guy who sells chicks is holding...
Hi all,
I have four chickens in Hartford CT, we started this experiment last summer after years of wanting chickens I finally convinced the family to give it a go. We got 4 nine week old pullets from another backyard farmer. I have one buff orpington, one white/lavendar orpington (she has...
