    Peeps in Europe!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to take many good photos this year. These are the ones I like the most. The right one decided that it was time to run away:rolleyes: "What are you looking at?" I really like this chick, the dark beak, the look and the grey back. (S)he also is the friendliest...

    Peeps in Europe!

Good luck❤️ She's so cute!! My black Bantam Silkie went broody the same day! She is sitting on some Brahma eggs, it's her first time so I hope everything goes well, I have to force her to get up everyday to eat and drink... I ended up putting 35 eggs in the incubator last month, 30 were fertile...

    Peeps in Europe!

I think today I will begin collecting eggs for my first 2023 incubation. Still don't know exactly how many eggs to set. I recently bought a new incubator that holds up to 70 eggs (I already tried it last year with quails and it's awesome), but I don't want to overdo, since feed and bedding...

    Rooster bachelor pad!

Hi! In my opinion it depends a lot on the breed (and temperament). I have many male Brahmas that live together with the hens and they get along pretty well. Even if I separate more males together, they don't fight. It's also true that I also do a temperament selection, so I cull anyone that's...

    Incubating Quail Questions

Hi! Some people use slightly different temperatures or humidity rates, because not all incubators and environments are the same. With many attempts, I found out that these are the ones that give me higher hatch rates. Coturnix should be incubated at 37.7°C (100°F)r, same during the lockdown. I...

    Peeps in Europe!

Few years ago, the normal price was €2/egg and €3/egg if the breed/colour was really rare. I never bought hatching eggs though, I was going to buy some Bantam Faverolles eggs from a breeder in central Italy, but I later decided to focus only on one chicken breed. Unfortunately, with the higher...

    White Orpington Genetics

She could be a recessive white, so both your rooster and the mother of the white hen are carriers. There are two main types of white in chickens: recessive white (c) and dominant white (I). The name itself explains how they work. Anyway, recessive white covers both red and black (and their...

    King quail baby question

King quails reach full sexual maturity at around 6 weeks old. Sometimes a couple can attack adult females as well, sometimes they all get along without problems. I'd keep a close eye on them as they reach adulthood and are weaned (the mother will begin to leave them alone more and more). If you...

    Bantam Birchen Cochin chicks?

I think they will all turn black, but to be sure you'll have to wait until they are fully feathered

What are some chicken breeds you wish that you have, but you don’t yet?

Talking about chickens, I decided to breed only Brahmas because I don't have much space, plus, this way, I can concentrate only on them and do a better selection work. This doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have other breeds:pop So, if I could, I'd love to have: Black and blue Croad Langshans...

When will my new hens lay?

It depends, they don't stop from one day to another, they usually slow down their egg production year by year, then they stop many years later (I know about 8-10 year old chickens which still layed few eggs per year)

When will my new hens lay?

Give them more time, as you said they are probably stressed from the travel and still need to accostumate to their new home. How old are they?

    Brooder Plate

I have two of these, a smaller and a bigger one, and I'm planning to buy another big one (if I hatch more chicks). I used them both for chickens and quails and I like them a lot. I also bought the plastic cap to avoid chicks jumping on the top. For my first brood I tried just putting a towel on...

How do some places keep different breeds pasturing together while having purebred offspring?

I agree, you just have to make sure to have them separated for some weeks before collecting the eggs for incubation (females can store the sperm, so they are able to produce fertile eggs for weeks even there are no drakes around anymore)
