Hello All,
My Buff Opringtons were 1 year old this past April. They stopped laying in June. At first I thought it was the hot weather but then they went through a very heavy molt in late August or early September. This molt was so heavy that you could visibly see an excess of feathers in the...
Good afternoon to all of my chicken raising friends!!! I am writing once again to inquire about my buff orpingtons that are now 23 weeks old that have not yet begun laying. I would say that I am a tad bit excited and looking forward to the first egg. They have started a lot slower than my...
Hello my friends, I am raising Buff Orpingtons for the first time and I would like for those of you with experience with this breed to share your experience. They are 20 weeks old this week. When I had Barred Plymoth Rocks, they were hatched in April and I got my first egg in September. I know...
Thank you for your response. Im interested in the birds because they are different from any that I have ever raised and I would like to try them for their meat. Like yourself I view them as menacing and they are stately birds. I have 4 acres of land and I believe that it would be nice to see...
Hello to all my fellow poultry raisers:
I know that it's late in the season but I would like to know if anyone can tell me where I can purchase some Dark Cornish chickens. Im interested in getting about 25. I live near Charleston, South Carolina and we experience nice temps well into the month...
Hello All, I have Jersey Giants, Barred Rocks, & Australorp and they all appear to have the same symptoms. By looking at the birds, they all look rather healthy. However when I pick them up, I can feel their frames. They all get clean fresh water daily, layer pellets and scratch feed. I have...

I have a small flock of 13 Jersey Giant hens and 2 roosters that I hatched from eggs that I got from Maria Hall about 2 years ago. Now I want to increase my Jersey giant flock.

This is a great question. The heat has also impacted the number of eggs that I am getting from my hens. I have gone from 2 or 3 dozens a day to 1 to 2 eggs per day.
I am in the process of collecting some eggs from my Jersey Giaants so that I can put them in the incubator. I generally get 4 to 5 eggs per day from my hens and my incubator can hold 35 eggs.
QUESTION???? How many days can I safely collect my eggs and keep them at room temperature until I am...
I have Jersey Giants, Barred Rocks, & Australorp and they all stopped laying about 2 weeks ago when the heat index was over 100. They have now started back laying as is they are making up for lost time.
I live in South Carolina and our temperatures have been in the mid to high 90's with the heat index in the low 100's. I would like for you to share if you have lost any birds due to the extreme temperatues. My birds are panting with their mouths open and I have lost 4 of my barred rocks over...
