all I know is Muscovies have claws .... maybe a safer way to carry them to transport to travel cages. They are good fliers so those muscles would be strong close to the body...
Maybe the equivalent of carrying a chicken by their feet?

I imagine they will stand on what is comfortable. that crushed rock they use for driveways seems to me like just walking around on shards....
walking around on wire in my eye would contribute to bumble foot. More chance for scrapage and small wounds... That and landing on sharp...
With Regard to cooping up your Dux at an odd time. This would be One case of the benefits of clicker training and or conditioning all your poultry to "come in" when necessary. Dont take long.
Either use a clicker and feed treets... or a bell or whacka bucket... What ever is useful...
