"Oh," Brid nodded, thinking. "Um, is there anyone else around?" She asked, hoping to change the subject. "Eva told me that River and Xylo were appointed as leaders."
(GTG! I'll try to get on later! :frow)
"I like yours too," Brid replied awkwardly. "Um, how did you recognize me? We haven't met, have we?" She straightened, opening her wings ever so slightly in what she hoped wasn't a challenging stance, but one that would keep her from seeming too submissive.
"Wow. It's more organized than I expected," Brid admitted with a small, embarrassed laugh. "Where is everyone?" She could hear heartbeats but still couldn't pinpoint location, and the camp seemed deserted. (As far as I know. I'll change the post if needed. :))
"That's horrible." They walked in silence for a while. "I wonder what made him kinda go off the deep end, if you know what I mean," she said, twirling her finger at her temple. "He sounds crazy now. He was a little strange before, but at least he seemed sane. I didn't really know him that well...
"That's wonderful! Not the part about Horius attacking you, of course," Brid answered, smiling. Eva's joy was infectious. "Where is Horius now? Why would he attack you?"
(Okay!)
Brid took a deep breath. What did I expect? That they all were just fine and living in a heated, air-conditioned hotel together? She sighed. "Well, I'm glad to have ran into you. I was about to give up, though I was completely lost anyway. How have things been for you lately?" She...
"Mmhm, I do. River's pregnant? That's wonderful!" Then she sobered. "Only about ten? But I thought that more had been exiled than that..." Heartbeats began to come alive at the edges of her hearing, and she remembered how disoriented she was in large groups. The normal everyday chatter was much...
"You would do that!? Thank you so much!" Brid wanted to hug her, but didn't want to freak her out. "You can trust me, I promise. I can tell you're nervous..." she added the last part almost by accident. Pointing out when others were nervous was a bad habit of hers, and Eva's heart was beating...
"I-I was raised by birds of the night after my parents died. I grew up with many of them. After they were Banished I was alone at the mansion because, well, I don't really know the others that well. I felt like an outcast and was treated like one, so I left." Brid replied.
"There were attacks?" Brid crouched, head in her hands, shock washing over her. "When? What happened? I left looking for the Banished weeks ago. I had no idea."
Brid followed the voice until she came into view of a familiar-looking girl. "Hi, Eva," she said, recognizing her, "Last time I saw you you were a hunter."
Brid sighed in defeat and spread her wings to fly, ready to give up, when she heard a heartbeat. It was an Aves! She refolded her wings and turned toward the gentle sound. "Is someone there?" she called softly.
