This is a 10 week old cochin bantam from TSC as a chick. What gender? She acts very hennish, stance, etc. Cochins are usually easy to sex but this one has had me guessing.
How long can an egg stay under a broody before it starts to develop? The reason I'm asking is I have 2 broody hens but I don't want them to hatch anything, I'm collecting eggs for consumption. I don't want to crack one open that has a baby started, but most days I can't collect until almost dark.
I have these 3 what I think/hope to be cochin bantam chicks. I got them from the assorted bantam bin at TSC. What genders are we thinking?

I got these from the bantam bin at TSC. They are 4 wks old now, they looked alike when they were chicks also, so I presume they are the same breed. I got them thinking they would be splash EE. But it looks like their shanks are going to stay yellow and they seem to have rose comb - their combs...
At what age does the comb start to grow on a white crested black polish cockerel? In other words, when should I start seeing the "toothpicks" coming out of the crest? I'm trying to figure out if I have a male or female.
Hello, heres a little backstory: I had a bantam cochin pullet age 9 months, that I found generally weak one night when I went to put them up for the night. She was fine up until this, just on the thin side. She had an appetite, but would sit there w/ her eyes closed in pain possibly. She...
This is almost a week old banty cochin baby, hatchery. I thought it was black, but it's feathering out w/some brown. Is this the way blacks start and then end up fully black? Or do I have a different color on my hands? PLease say gold laced...
This one is about 6-7 wks old easter egger from a breeder. I don't think it has the typical 'rooster eye', if ya know what I mean What gender? It's beard is wet in the pics, he can't keep it out of the waterer.
I have a mixed batch of ages in a brooder outside w/ a heat lamp. They are 3 wks old and 1 wk old. They have been presenting w/a respiratory infection starting yesterday. Can I add antibiotic (oxytetracycline and gallimycin) to their quart waterer? I worry the 1 wk olds are too young for it...
I got this one when it was already feathered out so unsure of age. I made an educated guess at about 8-10 wks old. Very friendly little thing. What sex is this? I'm confused because the topknot is rounded and the feathers in it have rounded edges. But the wattles are red. I read to look for a...
This chick is almost 4 wks old. I just noticed today that there seem to be some dark red feathers coming in over the shoulders and wings. It seems really early for those to be coming in compared to other EE roos I"ve raised. What do you think? Is it too early to tell?
I'm wondering people's opinions on the best choice of feed for a mixed flock of pre-lay pullets, adult hens and roosters, and sometimes the free range guineas will eat this too. I want to change my feed, they all eat layer crumbles now. I'm concerned about the amount of calcium in the layer feed...
THis little one is a 3 wk old. I think roo, b/c he is feathering very slowly, just a few feathers come in here and there at a time. Or do all wellies feather in slowly? I've never had one this young before. Also he has a flat spot where his comb is supposed to be. Don't wellies have straight...
I have 3 Polish chicks, wondering if we can tell gender yet.
This one is about 4 weeks old, white crested black
These two are about 3 weeks old, crele.

I got this little one from a hatchery as a sexed Welsummer pullet. Should be about 10 wks old. Can anyone confirm this is a pullet? She looks like what all the welsummer pullet photos I've seen, the only thing that worries me is that the wattles are reddening already. I've read that hatchery...
I have 2 sicillian buttercups, 1-2 wks old. I've never had this breed before. They looked identical as baby babies, they are from a breeder not a hatchery. Can you tell by the spotting on their heads what gender they will be?
I have 2 EE's, they are about 2 wks old now. I understand some colors on EE's you can tell gender early on...can anyone tell yet from this pictures? They are breeder EE's, not from a hatchery if that makes any difference.
Also, what colors are they going to end up being? Thanks.
