I was quite surprised to find this in one of my cortunix pens this morning. It doesn't show up in the picture too well but it is quite green (picture is an EE egg, a duck egg, quail egg and the green quail egg).
I have never had this happen before but I take it that it is from one of the two...
I posted this on the Jaerhon thread but got no answer. Feathersite says they can be sexed by color as chicks but the two I hatched look the same to me.
Got three done this morning. I started at 6:00 but it was still miserably hot out. Got the big rooster done and was glad since he had started biting me. They are way over 8 weeks and I still have 4 more to go.
I had time this morning to just do two of these.
Had to kill the snake first
, then the phone rang off the hook but they are some good looking birds. I left them whole to use as roasters this time.
7 More to go.
I am looking for about 25 corturnix quail eggs, jumbo would be nice as I am planning on raising them to breed and eat.
I could use a few ringneck pheasant eggs as well. I have just one pheasant and it is laying like crazy but she has no mate.
These are from my splash pen. There are several splash hens in there and one blue hen. The roosters are splash and red necked blue.
I cannot, of course, guarantee your hatch but so far every one of these eggs that I have put in my incubator this spring (about 8) have been fertile.
10 hatching eggs from my ducks. I have 17 ducks, a lot are crested but some are not. They are various breeds, rouen, runners, blue swedish, pekin, cayuga, magpie and one chocolate colored duck that lays eggs with a dark film on them like a cayuga. There is one muscovie hen in the pen as well.
I...
So I am looking around the yard today, trying to figure out what I can make a killing cone out of. I didn't see anything even remotely cone like or that could be made cone like. So I thought to myself, even if I had a good hatchet I could, eventually get rid of some of these spare roosters...
So I promised myself I would process a few quail today and it turned out dreary and rainy looking out so I only did 5 of the males. I took pics for you all but it isn't a whole lot different that doing chickens except no scalding, I dry pluck.
Here is the soda bottle cone
The only knife I...
I have 10 serama, 10 EE and many bantam cochin eggs that need a home.
Here is one of my hens and a little roo, I hatched from my own eggs.
Here are my blue EE roos, I also have a red roo, some white hens, some brown rumpless hens and a black and white hen. The eggs are a very nice green...
Last week one of my blue standard EE roosters died. I had seen him the day before sitting in the coop/nest box but I didn't think anything about it as there are two other roosters in that pen and thought maybe they were getting a bit aggressive and he was hiding. The next day he was in the same...
Up for auction is a hand embroidered chicken tote. They are made from a canvas type of material and are unlined. I designed and embroidered it myself. This tote is a beige color. The tote is 13.5 x13.5 inches. Should make a great Christmas (or whatever) gift for the chicken lover at your house.
6 Mottled Houdan hatching eggs.
Houdan are an old French breed, once known as the Normandy fowl. They were given the name Houdan because large numbers of these birds were bred in the town of Houdan in France. Once valued in France for their fine white meat and large eggs, they are now...
A short time ago I posted about hatching a very light blue Polish and I asked about color and was told splash. This chick was from my blue x splash Polish. Today I hatched another one of these light blue chicks and I still do not know what color the other one is. Are there different shades of...
Looks like I am needing some more spitzhauben eggs since my three look like females plus only one is spangled as nice as I would like for some reason. They are very small but one is laying already. I was quite amazed when I got that first egg, I was still hoping one would turn into a roo.
I have 3 EE eggs, 2 blue/splash Polish and 2 houdan eggs. $16 including shipping. The last 6 eggs that I have hatched from the Polish pair have all been blue, though you could, of course, get blue or splash.
In the EE pen are two blue roos and a red roo with assorted hen colors.
Houdan are...
I have 8 crested duck eggs. These are rouen and Blue Swedish mixed. The drake has a double crest. I also have a baby from him with a double crest and the person that tested for me hatched out 6 babies and 4 were crested. Please keep in mind that ducks dig down to the dirt to lay their eggs and...
