When she stood up I saw a quarter size hole in one egg...and the little bugger is talking to mother goose. This is great; can't wait for the sun to shine this morning so I can see in the nest.
I took her lettuce and baby spinich last night for dinner; she must be exhausted and relieved to...

Have any of you shaken eggs to control population...or do you let them all hatch then scramble to find homes for the ones you do not wish to keep?
She stayed on the nest yesterday so they are still "just eggs"... I want to humanly control their gosling numbers.
This will be Lucy's first...
I know they are intended for horses, however I'm seeking a "green" alternative for the grass they love so much. (Winter's in full swing here).
Romaine is a highly regarded treat they come running for but I can't give them a belly full daily ($).
What other options are out there?
With a little one in the coop, I want to insure the protien needs are met for the gosling...so I just put gosling food in the feeder. Just until it's time to switch to lower protein; will that hurt my big goose (1 yr).
Will be grazing as well.
Last year I ordered two goslings from **; one did not make it. Spent more time laying than standing from day one.
This year I ordered 4, two pairs; one pair for me and pair for friend. Three are doing great (two moved out yesterday)! My little girl is spending more time laying than...
on a clutch of American buff eggs (x pekin duck) that won't hatch (fingers crossed) but luckily goslings are scheduled to arrive late this month.
1. Should I encourage her off the nest to eat/drink. I put food and water right next to her last night as she has not budged in four days. I keep...
friendly; so to speak. How do I curbtail this change in their relationship...that is; Pekin duck and American buff goose; both a year old in June.
He's a companion only until I obtain a larger goose family this Spring...then he goes to a good, safe home with other ducks. <fingers crossed>
And if you are selling goslings, can/will you sex out two females? I positively don't want a gander in the group and I have one goose (Lucy) now.
I'm also going to have to find a great home for Lucy's companion duck...male pekin. If anyone has a lovely female needing a mate. He's quite...
Have any of you ever had a problem with "puppy strangles"?
One of my labbie pups developed right after round 1 vaccines...almost lost her.
Started with tiny bump on one eye lid, then discharge from both eyes with upper respiratory infection. (Took her to vet here) Lameness in back left...
Seeking pure american gosling in ne pa; color / gender does not matter. Breeder sold out, cannot re order this year...I have one lonely girl left from a pair (he was small, just passed in his sleep). She is a two week old buff.
Thank you.
their little personalities are emerging. I love the little chatter thing they do when happy. (eg. tiny romaine pieces added to water....nappy time...walk time in the yard). They are great.
What pleases your goslings?
Before we switch over to lower protien mix. Can any one give me a ball park figure? (in pounds)
TS in my area has a twenty pound bag, gosling/duck starter; will that be too much or should I special order a smaller bag? They will be offered fresh grass cuttings as well...from day one. This...
Or just toss them in the dumpster...
Wondering if we can re-cycle, like oyster shells.
Friends showed up this week-end with a bushel of clams to share. Now I have many shells as you can imagine...can we do anything with them?
