I swore I read awhile back that someone bought this digital thermometer from cutler supply. ( link below) I was wondering if anyone has purchased it, and can attest to it's accuracy. Here's the link....

Please forgive me if this has been asked before. Do male silkies get spurs? It's a silly question, and it's early. I haven't drank all my coffee yet. The thought just popped in my head, and I had to ask.

We had a hard freeze last night. I went to bed around 11pm, and checked the incubator. Everything was fine. There was water in the trough also. I got up early this morning, and checked the incubator. To my horror, the humidity was 16 % ! ( It was at 38 %) I added a little warm water, and it...
This will be my first attempted hatch ever. I added 17 eggs today, and I'll be happy if any hatch. I believe they are due to hatch on the 19th, so wish me luck.

After a tragic event in my yard a little while ago, I've decided in my Rooster, Gandalf's honor, I'm going to hatch some of the eggs. A nearby BYC friend ( Thank you Opa) is going to let me borrow an incubator, and hopefully my first attempt at this doesn't go too wrong.
I haven't done this...
Our EE Merle hasn't laid an egg in about 5 days. Merle is the oldest out of our flock. They were all wormed on July 19th, and she was the second to start laying on August 4th. She's only missed a day once until now. I've checked her over twice this week, and she's a happy, healthy girl.
They...

I was wondering if anyone knew if Yarrow was toxic for chickens. I have to trim my yarrow back quite a bit, and couldn't find anything on yarrow being toxic. I couldn't find it on the toxic plant list, but didn't know if that was a complete list or not.

We have an old building on our property that is 160 sq. ft.. It hadn't been used in awhile, but the building is in decent shape. Even has electricity. We think the inside housed every creature, and insect known to mankind.
It has a dirt floor, so we had to fill groundhog holes, and level the...

We bought this 109 year old farmhouse last summer, and we could not wait to get some chickens this spring. We have a few buildings on the property already, and one of them was used for quail, or pheasants I guess. It's a big building, and we can probably fit 40 or so birds in it.
Anyway, we...
I was checking on my chicks and noticed my 4 week old buff orp was shutting her left eye. She is eating normally, drinking normally, and eye is not swollen, or even injured. She will open it, then close it again. Not really sure what this is, and if I should worry.
