These are the 6 I got a few days ago! They're 5-6w old. They are SOOOOOO docile! The kids hold them and they snuggle in their hands. TOO cute! Here are some pics. I have a sheer fabric, as you can see, draped just under the top of the cage just in case they decide to boink up. So far, not much...
We had an issue with our HOA and can no longer have our chickens. We're pretty upset but there's nothing that can be done. The good news is, a friend of ours has a lot of land in the mountains 30min from us (they own chickens already) and will take them. They already have 4 of ours so, we...
My 2 layers suddenly have very sporadic egg laying. Maybe 3/week instead of 1 every day. My 6, 21wo pullets aren't laying yet either and they have all the signs that they are going to. Can the heat cause them to lay less frequent?
I have a 2yo RIR, Ruby. She has become my fave. I thought my BO hen would be because she's just so fluffy, but Ruby comes to me when I call her. She loves when I pet her. The problem I am having with her is she is so mean to the 20w old babies (6 of them). One of the RIR and both of the LBs...
We're putting hardware cloth all the way around it and over the top. We don't have much in the way of predators. We normally let them free range but lately they've ventured out into the front yard and the HOA doesn't like it.... so, we have to stick them in a run. Do you think this is enough...
I have 6 pullets that are just about 20w old. 2 RIRs, 2 LBs and 2 BOs..... about when should I expect them to start laying? Also.... how many nesting boxes should I have for 8 pullets/hens?
So, we found some mice in the coop and DH saw a few droppings in the bag of feed (I now know to put the feed in a tote with a lid). Would you say to chuck the whole bag? UGH! I'm thinking we will and it's only 1/4 empty. *sigh*
I normally keep the 6 chicks (they are about 15/16w old) in the covered run overnight (my RIR hen will peck at them incestuously) but last night there were huge thunderstorms and buckets of rain dropping from the sky. So, I'm standing out in the middle of it all corralling them into the chicken...
So I built the frame and put up the wire stock panels but I have a problem and need some help.... the center of the panels won't stay up. They keep buckling in the center. What can I use to keep them up? I keep looking at pictures and don't see anyone using anything obvious. I bet this is...
What do you think??? There's about 10 pics taken today of them. I have my suspicions about which are roos.

I am pretty sure I know which are roos and which are pullets. Can you tell?? There are 6 chicks..... 2 RIR, 2 LBs, 2 BOs.

This chick on the top seems to be telling me roo...
They are 2.5w old or so now. What are some signs I can look for to tell if they are pullets or roos?? One I am suspect of is a roo, but I want to be sure I know what to look for. TIA!
Pics below!!
Ok so I put together a 29"W x 16"H x4'L box (ends open) and now I don't know what to do with it. It goes on the top of the bottom coop that I have made from a massive dog crate. I was going to use it for the nesting box, but 4ft is a big long to reach in to get the eggs. Unless I put a open...
I am totally a newb to chicken owning but this morning my BO (shockingly not my my RIR) gave me a beauty! DH ate it this evening and made a ham and egg sandwich on an english muffin. He hasn't had a fresh egg since he was a kid and LOVED it. Let's hope this means I'll get eggs on a regular...
I think my BO has gone broody! She won't come out of the box!! I had to grab her and put her in the run. She's making these low clucking sounds when I go near here. What do they act like when they are broody? How can I break it?
