I have had such a wonderful time raising my babies this year. I ordered 26 from Estes Hatchery and they all came in great, with 3 extras (they said they added some "cause it's cold up there". Sad thing is it's been a mild winter .
Anyway, this year I have them on my porch with an Ecoglow50...
I hope someone can help me understand this, what should be easy, construction.
We are building several "hoop houses" for various things (geese shelter, chicken run, hay storage). Due to our weather here we have chosen to use cattle panels attached to t-posts. This appears to be our most...
What does everyone do about having windows open in the coop when they call for 20-30 % chance of rain everyday? Or those afternoon summer storms?
I work all day, and the new coop I am building is going to have windows in it for good summer ventilation, but I am concerned about rain getting in...
I am building the following shed and making it a coop:
http://www.midwestmanufacturing.com/MidwestManufacturing/web/docs/pdf/12_EZ_Yard_Barn.pdf
The picture shows a roll-up door, but we are putting in the barn doors on the end, and it will have windows along with 2 roof vents (opposite each...
My problem is I must be doing something wrong in butchering/cooking. Last time I crocked an old hen, she was moist and falling of the bone, but I might as well been eating rubber.
I have about 10 I need to do this fall (some are about 3, some are 5+), any suggestions to make it better. DH is...
I need your help/input.
I feed Purina Flock Raiser to my mixed flock of day olds to 5+ year old chickens and geese.
MIL went to the store today to go buy me some more, but went to a different feed store and brought home Homestead FastGrow http://www.homesteadfeeds.com/Poultry/fastgrow.html

I see all the hoop ideas and pictures, but I am looking for something in particular I think.
I just want to know if it's been done/possible????
I want to build a hoop run 16' wide. I realize it will need a support in the middle.
My question is:
What size panel would I use?
Could I...
New Coop is being built:
It's a 12 x 16 shed, my DH is started calling it the Chicken Taj Mahal, but now it's just the Chicken Barn. They will get either 12 x 10 or 12 x 12, and the rest will be food storage and brooder area.
This is what they have right now:
This will be demolished and...
The is my first go round at successfully hatching eggs under a broody! Well for that matter at all!!!
I have two broody's. One is penned below the nest in a broody area with food and water, not worried about her and the chicks. I only separated her because she was always going in the wrong...
Help please.
DH is going to start building new 12 x 16 coop. He is building the outside, I need to tell him how I want the inside.
The coop will be insulated for the Wyoming winters/wind.
I am planning on splitting (maybe with a half wall? wood on bottom, chicken wire on top?) the inside...
I think I am not meant to hatch this year
I received a free working hovabator this year, and I was so excited. I filled it up (after letting it run a week) with a bunch of my own eggs (all for purposes of testing of course) with what I thought was a 50/50 chance of fertility. Not a one even...
Ok, we already did the chicken math, went from 13 adults to having 41 chicks in the brooder right now. (we wont go there with the geese).
I got a free incubator this year, been running for about 4 weeks. Tried to incubate some of my own eggs (I had a 50/50 shot or less of fertility)...
I am looking for Numbered Bandettes for my growing backyard flock. I am willing to take leftovers from others, I can work with that
I don't know much about them, but I am thinking I need varying sizes as I have Andalusians, Cubulayas, Orpingtons, Jersey Giants, RSL, Speckeled Sussex, Marans...
Should I trust my broody goose on if her eggs are still viable?
I don't have an exact time of when she started sitting on her eggs, but I know for sure she was sitting by 4/16.. shouldn't she have hatched by now, it's been 35 days minimum? (I think she may have been up to 1 week before that)...

I have two light brahmas, one is definitely a pullet, the other is real questionable. He/she is not feathering in at the same rate, has a more cocky attitude and is starting to turn red. Any thoughts?
Questionable Roo....
Can you tell me if she/he is a boy or girl? Or is it too early. I don't have another to compare her too.. She was picked up as a Light Brahma, but apparently the hatchery didn't get it right.. (out of 3 LB pullets, I have 1 pullet, 1 poss roo, and 1 sultan)
Thanks...
Story line - Free incubator and first time playing with it. DH is doing a "trial" just b/c he can and his curiosity is getting the best of him.. Have some eggs that are fresh (collected that night) some that have been refrigerated for a day or two, and the rest from the fridge for who knows...
Does anyone know what we are? We are a little over 4 weeks old now... we were picked out of a straight run bin and the feed store had no clue what they ordered/received.
Chick 1
Chick 2 (Kicker, a runt)
Thanks everyone
I have a current flock of geese that currently have 5 goslings from two different broody geese, 1 goose due to hatch an unknown amount of eggs, and two geese who keep laying and sitting at night, but dont actually go broody.
I just bought 5 goslings at the store to add some fresh bloodline to...
