I candled my eggs, again, tonight in a darker room. On several eggs, again, I see a red ring on part of the egg, but the eggs are the only ones that really look like there is a chick moving around in there. So far, nothing smells. I cant see vascular lines on anything else. However, only 3 eggs...
This is my first time to receive shipped eggs. I know I will need to open them right away, remove any cracked eggs, and set them in an egg container fat side up/pointy side down, put them in a 50degree environment, and let them sit for.... 24 hours or 3 days?? Anything else I need to do?? TIA
I bought a new soldering iron I needed for a class, and I wanted to practice a little before I went. Well, it worked great until I wiped it off with a wet towel and ran to home depot to get a clamp to hold my work. I came home, plugged it in, and the dern thing wouldn't hold the solder! It just...
Has there been any discussion of a NYD hatch?? I've been looking forward to it for months! We have moved across country, and will be in a completely new environment for hatching.. not that we had much success last year. I am rebuilding my homemade incubator, this time with a computer fan added...
This Afternoon my son went looking for eggs, and found a strange (what looked like) a shell-less egg with something like a yolk. It also had a tail like extension. WHAT IS THIS???
Here we are! A thread for all of us with nothing, nada, zip, zilch.
So, I'll begin! I just looked in the bator. Six eggs just sitting there.. ma nish ta na...?
I wasn't sure what section was appropriate. I was afraid of the other chemicals, so I just got plain rock salt. I'm going to have to salt at least my stairs leading out of the house.
i'm worried about the girls eating it when I let them out to play. Will too much kill them? What about the...
I'm using the same $8 HD hot water heater thermostat as seen on most of the homemade bators here. I would expect them to have somewhat good accuracy. I realize, of course, that we are heating lightbulbs, not hot water. Mine is pointing directly to the "2" in the "52C" mark (I'm reading it upside...
I got all cockey (no pun intended) last night when my bator worked and humidity was up higher than I needed, but no vents in yet. I've read on many posts that have small boxes that they found the 40 w bulb to be too much and switched to a 25w. Since my light was off more than it was on, and it...
OK, 4 hour round trip to pick up 6 fertile eggs, check. Stop at Wal Mart for some supplies with 2 screaming kids in tow, check. Turned off AC in sewing room to, hopefully keep them around 55 degrees, check. Now I have some really stupid questions. She gave them to me in a carton pointy end down...
I'm going to go ahead and order some fertilized eggs for my kids. I know they need to set for a day at room temp before I put them in the incubator. If we don't set the eggs until the 11th, they have to sit out on the 10th. If I order now, they will get here overnight.... what do I do with them...
Someone posted that they had made a waterer out of a cooler since the insulation kept the water warm. Its not even December, and I'm sick of finding ice in the girls water every morning. Well, that, and it means I have to go out earlier and in the cold If anyone has pictures and/or instructions...
Today, for the second time, DH told me I'm looking more and more like my chickens; beaky nose and fluffy cheeks. I'm not sure how to take this, as I think they are absolutely adorable. So, was this a compliment, or an insult... opinions??? (and, yes, I told him "that's it! I'm posting it")
I'm starting to wonder if Fluffy, my Wyandotte, is really an EE. (FYI, I am not responsible for naming my chickens) When we bought the girls, they were in the same pen marked Americaunas and Wyandotte. Ivy, who is pure white now was all yellow fuzz. Fluffy was yellow with brown wings and stripe...
I got 2 eggs today from Ivy. My Wyandotte, Fluffy, hasn't started to lay, yet, and both eggs were green. I got one this morning and one this afternoon. I'm assuming that means no eggs tomorrow?
Wouldn't you know it was the one day that I was so busy I didn't have a chance to check the girls. When my son got home from school, I sent him outside to let the girls out to play, and he ran inside with a big grin and a blue/green egg!!!
I feel like the worst chicken mother, ever! The rain here will not stop. I can't move the tractor to fresh, although muddy, grass because the ground is so wet, it has sunk. My girls are hanging out in their run, which is about an inch or more of mud. I would hope that they would stay in their...
