Over the weekend when we went to let our ducks outside, our drake was dead right by the door. Blood all over the place. We're trying to figure out what happened. There are no holes or anything in the barn that anything could have gotten inside. We have seen rats and my husband put some bait down...
I have a duckling that is about a week old and is lonely. Its the only one that survived the hatch so i'm looking for a baby close in age. I have 4 adults and just 1 baby so looking for a friend. Please let me know what you have.
So now I'm on day 30 and still have 5 eggs that haven't hatched or internally pipped. There are a few that are rocking so i know they are still alive. How long should I wait?
So the little guy that i helped hatch out yesterday, is still laying there, moving as best he can with the shell still attatched. Is it ok to dip his bill in a mix of pedialyte and water? or should i just wait? I feel so bad for him. And he/she is so darn cute looking up at me when i talk to it.
I decided to help 1 of my eggs that internally pipped this weekend. Its been more then 24 hours and I was getting nervous. I'm glad I helped because it was in a weird position or something and his head was stuck. It was weird. So I left it in the shell and only took off what I needed to in...
I went into lockdown on Friday. They have been rocking for a few days now. They haven't moved in the last couple hours. I'm hoping they are just resting but have a bad feeling. None have externally pipped yet. should i be worried? When should i start to worrry?
I just went into lock down and I'm having trouble bringing my humidity high enough. I have my temps at 97 and my humidity won't go higher than 68%. I have 3 things of hot water and a cloth hanging out of one of the waters. Any other ideas?
Yesterday my husband went out to feed our girls and put them in for the night. It was pouring out and 1 of my older RIR was outside getting soaked and very slow to come in. He said it looked like she wasn't doing well... This morning when i went out, I opened the door to the run, counted the...
I know you shouldn't try to "domesticate" a wild duck and I also know a domesticated duck can't survive in the wild. Which is why I need an answer. How do you tell if a duck is domestic or wild?
I was draining and cleaning our duck pond and I heard my 8 y/o say something to my 6 and 3 y/o's in...
My kids brought home some morning glory seeds from school, so I have a bunch and I was thinking about planting along the fence of the duck pen. Is it ok for the ducks to eat? Its not poisonous or anything to them right? I want to grow them so they grow up the fencing but not sure if ok for them...
I have 9 eggs in the bator on day 16. I can't tell if it is a quitter or moving around. Not sure if what I am seeing is some of the shadows from my "unsteady" hand or if its really moving in there. I will try to get a good pic but its hard to see. If i can get a decent pic, i will post it. Any...
Not really sure, they are 1 week, my husband brought them home for mothers day. He said he thinks they are barred rocks. And is there a way for sexing them? Right now we have 9 hens, all adults so hoping these are hens as well but if not it will still be ok.
My husband brought home 3 baby chicks (barred rocks) that were born on Monday, so they would be 5 days old today. I have hatched out ducklings but not sure how to care for baby chicks. What temp should the brooder be? I have the same kind of brooder set up I used for my duckling but I need to...
We are on day 7 on incubating our eggs. I looked at the metzer site and when the candling pics, it didn't mention the size of the air cell. The air cell on the majority of my eggs were about the size of a quarter, and a couple it was smaller, more like the size of a dime. Should I adjust my...
We put in the pond yesterday and up until then they hated the water. I put them in yesterday and only 1 stayed in. Today I put the drake (lolly pop) in and 2 of the 3 girls followed. And have been learning to swim on and off most of the day.
I didn't have the camera at the time but lolly pop...
I took a pic of one of the eggs that i am concerned about. Out of 10 so far this is the only concerning one. When i turn the egg, i notice the black spots are actually on the egg shell (inside) and not on the "yolk" part... Sorry, was having computer issues........ here are the pics
YAY - we finally had time to fence in their outside area, and set up their pond. We don't have it fully secure but they get "locked" in the barn at night and that is secure. But i'm so happy and hope they continue to get used to the pond and swim in it. I put one of the girls in it and she...
