I've been searching craigslist for a rooster, and I've stumbled on a 6-month old frizzle. All of my girls have normal feathers. Have any of you with frizzles found that they're picked at due to the different feathers? Thank you for your input!
Hello!
I have a 4 y/o RIR named Lucy that I suspect has a laying issue (almost constant poop-stance, waddling, swollen abdomen, droopy purple comb, yellowish runny poop). I am going to give her a warm bath today and am going to attempt to examine her vent and abdomen. When I inspect her vent...
First, please forgive me if the answer is in the forum. I've searched a few times but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
I've found roundworms in my 1.5 y/o flock's poop recently and have treated for the very first time with Wazine. I didn't want to treat now because they're molting...
I've griped on BYC for a few months about my handsome EE roo Lincoln, who begins crowing every morning at 3:30. DH is at his wits' end, as the coop is 10' from our bedroom window. In May I hatched 5 eggs, 4 of which are boys. I can only reasonably keep 2.
DH talked with the manager of the...
This Wednesday I had blood drawn for a physical and had a wad of gauze taped onto the bend of my elbow. Later in the day I was crouching down in the run breaking up broccoli stalks for the girls, as they are spoiled and insist on being hand-fed rather than breaking up treats and eating them off...
My 7 1/2 week old chicks have been on medicated started since they hatched. They went through a 5lb bag of MannaPro, then I switched to Purina. They had one outing last week, and at least one of them ate a worm. Three days ago I noticed lots of bloody poops, with I though was shed intestinal...
I noticed some bloody poops in the brooder a couple of days ago. I have 5 chicks that are 7 weeks old, and have been on medicated chick starter from day one (first MannaPro, then switched to Purina). I immediately dismissed the bloody poop as shed intestinal lining. But yesterday and this...
I've been stalking the Easter Eggers Sexing Tips & Tricks thread for weeks. I would like some opinions, or rather confirmation, on the genders of these 5 chicks I hatched. I'm pretty sure I lost the chick lottery, as I think they're all cockerals. They are 6 1/2 weeks. I apologize for the...
I was working in my living room this morning when I heard some commotion. I looked out the window and saw my roo high-tailing it across the front yard. I put some shoes on and went outside to do a head count. I saw a fox leaping onto my best girl Betty! I ran toward it and started screaming...
Lincoln is our year-old EE roo. He's a wonderful gentleman, and takes great care of his ladies. He even has a girlfriend. However, every morning he begins crowing around 3:30. Every once in a while it will be as early as 12:30. DH and I are at our wits end. We are early to rise, but even...
I hatched 5 EEs four weeks ago, and I'm beginning to think I lost the hatching lottery. All but one have imprinted on me, and I'm starting to think about their future, aka giving them away, processing, or keeping. I already have a rooster (who may or may not still be with us in a month because...
I have a chick who hatched last nigh with what I believe to be a slipped Achilles tendon. I've found some posts and a poultry site on how to treat, but I need clarification. What exactly should it feel like? I've felt her joint, but it just feels bony. Do I need to extend her leg all the...
Day 21 was Friday, and I've had 6 babies hatch over the weekend! One is still in the incubator with shrink wrapping issues (waiting for some advice in Incubating & Hatching). Here are my 5 dried fuzzy butts who will move to a larger brooder when the hatch is complete:
I had a chick pip yesterday morning (day 23), and by 9:30 last night was almost completely zipped but just couldn't break out. Another had already pipped, zipped and hatched during this time. DH and I decided to intervene, and I'm glad I did, because she never would have made it out. When I...
I tried looking this up but couldn't quite find the answer.
I just hatched a chick whose mama is a BSL and daddy is an EE. The chick's comb is large compared to the others'. I'm assuming this chick has a single comb and the others have pea combs. Is it typical for single combs to be so large...
I have a chick who just hatched and is full of energy. It's buzzing around the 'bator and crawling over eggs which is rolling them over. Is this going to be a problem for the chicks that have yet to hatch? This is my first hatch, and I know that the eggs shouldn't be turned after day 18...
I'm on day 11 with 14 eggs in my LG still air. This is my first hatch, and I'm losing sleep! I had the incubator running for two day prior to adding my eggs. On the lowest setting the temp ran between 115-119F. To keep the temp between 100-102 I have the lid open about an inch and adjust it...
I'm going to be setting my very first batch of eggs in the coming week with the LG bator I received this Christmas. DH and I are a little paranoid about leaving the incubator running when we're not at home. I will obviously not set it near anything flamable, and I want to set it up on a stable...
I'm not sure if my flock has a worm issue or not. I clean my roost and poop board every day and inspect poop for any evidence of worms. So far no worms or what appear to be eggs. I also clean the coop and run regularly. They free range for a couple hours on most days.
I have BSLs and EEs...
