two nights ago something got in an ate my hens two babies(4 weeks old).. since then she has been sleeping 30 feet up in a tree.
during the day she settles herself down right next to one of the mini coops that my hubs built for the mamas and new babies..
Is there anything I can do for her? She...
So, my flock went from twenty, to 8, then back up to 18 when I bought some chickens.. then I had two hatch out with their momma.. and two nights ago, something ate those two, along with two others.. last night.. something ate my ROOSTER.
This is the rooster that has escaped a coyote massacre...
So, I have 4 mamas on nests. two just started yesterday, and the other two - one has week old chicks, the other has been hatching out since wednesday. The two with chicks are in an enclosed area, seperated..
Well.. The one hen with the week old babies found a spot she could sneak into the other...
SO I was alerted about an hour ago by my chickens making a hell of a lot of noise that something was up, so I go outside and can only see 3/25 of them...
I then see a big group of them underneath the plum tree at the back of them 900sqft run. So I go around to the back of the run and see a bird...
I hatched out three eggs out of at least a dozen that were under a broody who got eaten in the march massacre
Out of the three, one is blind, I call him bert after his dad who he looks just like, and the other two dont have names.
They are sweethearts though, and talk to bert, and sleep at...
I have a bantam polish cross.
Her current babies were born on June 20th, she laid a good 7 or 8 eggs, and is now sitting on them. I gave her a couple more eggs to see if she was broody or not and she rolled them under her. She's probably on day 3 of not leaving the nest...
Is this normal? Her...
I have this big white rooster, with a puffy face. He's adorable. Everytime I add a new chicken.. he dances over to them.
And, he's like the dad to alll the babies!
When I throw in table scraps, or uncover an area that contains worms.. he runs over and goes "pok, pok pok pok pok" and picks up...
I just picked up these little ones from the livestock auction, and since they all seem to be lacking some feathers, I can't tell if they are roosters or hens. I think they are all roosters... but my big rooster has been dancing over to a couple of them like he does to the ladies...
THeres 6 of...
So the mom WAS a white & grey speckled hen(Barred rock cross leghorn probably as she wasnt a pure BR I know that for sure), much like the two little grey ones. The dad is either my big white rooster, or my little bantam black & yellow rooster.
There are 11 of them. 2 grey, one brown/yellow and 8...
This is my Bert Jr.
His dad and mom were eaten for lunch by some coyotes in march.
He and his two brothers hatched at the end of march and I noticed about a month ago that hes blind. He was almost quacking and I thought that was kinda strange and then I noticed him walking funny so I thought...
I have a chicken I hatched in april? I think...
Hes quite cute, and when he sits.. its on his butt with his legs stretched straight out.
at first I thought he might be sick... but now, I'm thinking hes partly blind.
you can get really close to him and at the last second hell get all startled...
So, I made this penned off area and put both my broodys in it, on their eggs.. on seperate sides.. and had the eggs in a box on its side so it was more private..
Well my bantam had a fit, and the standard kept attacking her!
I've now seperated them...
Standard and her 17 eggs gets the bigger...
My indian runner hatched out one baby.. and I guess it wandered off and froze. She attacks me when I get close and I dont feel comfortable moving her.. she needs a new duckling though. Does anyone know of anywhere in BC with ducklings? I need a new baby for her as it looks like the other 4 eggs...
First is a cross between I think australorp & golden laced wyandotte? Not sure though, as it came from a medium brown egg. just hatched another who looks very similar. 1/2 the eggs in each incubator are a friends, and we forgot to mark whose were whose, and now... well... we don't know which...
I'll bust out the camera soon, BUT
I have 5 or so black hens - which are any of the following.. not 100% sure - black stars/possibe australorp/ameraucana/neat black chickens
and my only rooster that does his job is tan, with a brown section that looks like a saddle.
Anyway
out of all 8 eggs...
Hi!
I went away to Ontario for 10 days on the 21st, and before I left, It was a couple degrees above freezing, and the chickens didnt smell, at all - even people who rarely came to my house said that.
Now, the RUN is what stinks, the coop needs to be cleaned desperatly, because the girl who was...
