I set a broody hen on April 15th and eggs began hatching this week so I have about ten new children. Went out to attend to my chickens this am and heard a commotion in the separate room where the new mama and her brood was. As I went in a black snake was speeding across the room with a bright...
This is a simple feeder I made and have been using for several years. I put other photos and details on ehow, Nothing to it.

In my stuff is a wrinkled, smudged piece of note book paper with the attached poem jotted down. I kept it in my Bible so that it would never be lost, and then I moved it to Marthas Bible. I got it out recently and added it to a picture. My daughter, Joanna wrote this Christmas poem when she was...
Went out this am as usual to feed & release the chickens. There were two large hounds that had apparently spent the night under and elevated part of my shop floor. One of them looked like a blood hound and told him to scram in no uncertain terms. Walking out to the tractor shed I noticed the lid...
Chicken Stuff
These are a series of chicklims (chicken limericks) I've written over the past couple of years. Thought some of you very fowl folks might get a chuckle or two - maybe a cluck.

........that poor chicken to cross the road?
GEORGE W. BUSH
We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not. The chicken is either with us or it is against us. There is no middle ground here.

OK, compared to store bought eggs (yuk! which are pitiful - even those that advertise to be the best) - home grown eggs are superb. What are they worth per dozen on the market? Eating type eggs that is, I have never sold any for hatching.
What are your eggs worth? With the price of feed...
With the 100 - 105 degree temps we've had here lately my birds act as if they're not hungry at all - especially for store bought grains. Now if it's a bucket of table or canning scraps or unfortunate grasshoppers they seem to get a little more enthusiasm for eating.
How to grow Kudzu
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All beginning gardeners out there might want to consider growing kudzu as a fine way to launch out into the great adventure of gardening here in Arkansas or anywhere in the south. Kudzu, for...
My raised bed squash bed is doing well this summer since I have kept all of the deer chased out of the yard. (ask me no questions) Yellow squash and Zuchinni that have gotten too big I feed to the feathered clan that are clucking about here. Some of the Zuchinni can grow to look like base ball...
Just got in a new batch of about 3doz. White Rocks. This brooder I made a few years ago from our old big satellite dish. A door was made in one side and a heat lamp hung from the center. The sheet metal tops I added to the feeders to keep you know what from dropping into the feed from above...
Can't figure why the hens are hiding out, his presence has caused them to become nocturnal feeders. I don't need an alarm clock thats for certain.
My other roosters are very intimidated. When this one crows they all just nod in agreement.
He hides, hoping to ambush a hawk that swoops down.
Just for fun........

It was beginning to creep me out. I imagine myself to be stout of heart, bold, fearless and resolute and all those other nice adjectives describing a man of valor. The six foot plus Black Snake that had taken two turns around my left calf and thigh annoyed me to the uttermost. Id simply gone...
