i just recently got this Wyandotte. I think it would be a splash. Over the last several days, the wattles have started to come in. I have also noticed that s/he is always trying to jump on the little Silky. Both were hatched around the same time.
Is it normal for a rooster to grab hold of a hen with its beak and hang on for a few minutes. My new birds are about 16 weeks old right now -- seems like mean behavior to me. Of the 5 roos that I ended up with, this one seems to be the most dominent.
This year, I purchased several baby chickens from one hatchery. Of the chooks, there are 5 or so roosters. I had planned on keeping one of them figuring that I have 3 pullets of the same breed. Then, after reading a post, it occurred to me since I got these all in the same batch they could be...
I don't know if my chicken is egg bound or what is wrong. She was fine yesterday but would not get off the roost today. When I lifted her off the roost, she could not walk. She has a smushy underside that is bulging. Any help would be appreciated.
Edited to say when we rub her stomach towards...
Hi. I have four Lt. Brahma's - 7 weeks old. I tried to get these pictures as close as I could (none of them will really pose for me *sigh*). What gender do you think they are?

PIC#3 - as you see they gave me their backside more often than not

I would love to hear that both of these chicks are pullets but am at leasting hoping the Buff Orpington is a pullet. Let me know what you think? Edited to add age: Both are 4 weeks old.

When our chicks arrived, one arrived with a foot that appears to be hurt. Never having seen a chick with this issue, I can't tell if it was hurt in the shipping or if it was born with it's foot/leg this way.

Went into Rural King yesterday...came out with these:

Wyandotte
Australorp (sorry, pic is large)
I'm suppose to get the ones I ordered tomorrow but when I saw the australorps I couldn't resist. They were my favorites of the ones I got last year.
Okay...I'm fairly certain "Cookie" is a pullet that hasn't started laying yet. What do you think?
My flock (just cause I like them):
Edited to add: I forgot to say she is approximately 4 1/2 mos old. All the others have started laying but they are all sexlinks so typically would lay earlier.
I have one black sexlink whose comb has not grown much nor has it started turning red yet. The chick is about 16 weeks old now. It's wattles are also small -- they are just beginning to turn red. All the other chicks I got at the same time have much larger wattles and combs -- and they are all...
I purchased my chickens from TSC on April 11th. I assumed they were about 3-4 days old when I purchased them. That would put them at maybe 16 weeks of age. I figured they would start laying in about a month or so. Because of that, today I bought grower food.
I came home to an EGG. Talk about...
Hi Everyone,
I've decided my chicks are non-genders. Some act like roos but should be pullets..hmm..so, question of the day...how many roos do you see? I've included several pictures of the same chicks so you get different views.

#4 - This is Ginger/George who is...
When you have a rooster with hens, do you feed them the same food? I'm curious as I know I have one rooster (at least) but I'm not going to be able to separate them to feed them different foods.
Do roos always stand taller then hens? I'm just curious as many of the pics I've seen of roosters on www.feathersite.com the roosters are standing nice, tall and proud. However, the hens seem to take a more submissive pose.
Any opinions?
I have three black sexlinks. I noticed that they are getting a lot of dark green feathers towards their tail. This doesn't show up in a picture. What breeds have those dark green feathers?
Edited to show clearer pics
Okay..here they are. My cochin (who still needs a name) is a pullet, I hope:
Ginger, a golden comet or red sexlink, who I think is a pullet:
HeShee, another golden comet, who I think is a roo:
A younger heshee:
A group shot of the girls:
Just wanted to show off the girls. Most are sex links (red and black) and one is a cochin. There is one sex link that really acts more like a boy but I don't think s/he looks like a boy so maybe is just a very aggressive pullet. The two red sex links are NOT friendly. I'm hoping when I move them...
Does anyone have a golden comet or red sex link rooster? I would love to see a picture of one. I have a chick that I bought that I think may be a very young rooster. S/he is only 4 weeks old so hard for me to tell right now. The pictures that I've taken on my cell phone are not coming out as...
I have 4-week old chicks. For the past several weeks, I have noticed one of the chicks, a sexlink, poop is more liquid than anything. Occasionally it is solid but more often it is not. I'm fairly certain it is only one that has the liquid, normal color, poop. The other chicks poop looks normal...
I was told that I was purchasing all pullets from TSC -- red sexlinks and black. Here are the two red's -- I don't know if you'll be able to really tell by the picture but would be interested in hearing whether you think they are hens or roos. They are approximately 4 weeks old.
The comb is...
