I've been watching my Rhode Island Red chicken today and it's behavior was very strange. I let the chickens out to free range and they all go around and do their own thing. But I was watching this hen and she looked like she was having trouble walking? Well, she was walking like she had a rash...
Hey everyone.
This summer I've decided to get some new chicks, I was thinking from a local store but being the person I am, I wanted more choice. I'll be ordering my chicks online again.
I'm still considering the chicks I want to add to my flock of 5 but I am also considering a rooster...
I am planning on getting some chicks and putting them under my broody hen, I am getting some chicks for my friend also, so when they are old enough some of the chicks go to her.
How old should they be to be seperated?
Hi, I am planning on getting some chicks for my Hen this Spring/Summer. I have 7, and there is a strong chance of them becoming broody.
Regardless if they are broody or not, I would like to know:
If a hen raises the chicks, will the be able to stay in the flock when they are full grown? Or...
Alright so I have a Americana Chicken. She just finished molting and she is normaly the top chicken, but she was getting picked on. She has lost tons of weight and is shivering. She has tons of food to eat crumble/corn but she is skinny as heck. I have never felt a chicken this light, and for a...
Alright everybody, I really wanted to share this because I thought it could be useful and it's something to do if you really want to know. So I have figured out how to find the 'leader' chicken. Basically, there is one chicken in your flock that can boss anyone around and they will do anything...

My Rhode Island Red has a scabby looking thing growing on her head. People said it was a 'Pox Scab' and to treat it with iodine and it would go down, this is day 3 of treating her with iodine and it only seems to be in diffrent places. I can't tell if it is actually going down, but she seems to...
I have a red star, she is 7 weeks old and smells like she rolled in poop than dirt. I tryed washing her is water, but she still smells like poo. I'm scared to use anything that could harm her, what can I do to get rid of the scent?
Thanks!
Okay, so me and my buddy are planning on having my Buff Orpington brood a Barnevelder egg, and when the egg is hatched I will give the chick to my friend.
Will this make my chicken sad? Because my friend would like to get the full "Chick experience".
Iv'e had millions of escapes. But the thing that I really don't like, is the chicks pooping in the food and water...

Right now she is sleeping on my hand, but she will wake up every once in a while and sneeze two times, and quickly fall asleep again.
Should I worry about the sneezing? Is it normal?
Just looks moderately red, but she has been laying down all the time. Do you think there is anything wrong with her? Or her maybe pruning to much, she is only 3 days old.
She is a Buff Orpington.
I was looking at my Buff Orpington chick, and she has been laying down repeatedly. So sure enough she has a peice of poop under her. We tryed a wet paper towel but it is not doing anything.
