    Coryza or ???

Ok, I now realize I did a bad thing! I had an existing flock that seemed just fine (some are 3 yo) and I decided to add new members. I did not quarantine. I brought them in on a Friday, and then the following week on Saturday is when I first noticed a chicken with rattly wet-sounding...

Wonder if anybody can offer suggestions to what happened to my turkey

I had a beautiful, huge BB white TOM who was around 7 months old. He has always been fine, no issues. We found him last night unable to walk - when we picked him up, he stumbled a few steps back down. He could not hold his head up, he was panting and his skin color was very gray (usually very...

    Delaware Rooster has turned aggressive

I have read about aggressive/mean roosters. I've got 2 roosters - 1 big, beautiful Delaware and a small, deformed Red SexLink. They are not quite a year old - maybe 10 months. The Delaware has been nice up to now - ever since I got mud boots and started wearing them while taking care of the...

    Multiple issues

I have a flock of 14 hens and 2 roo's. Also next to them but not in the same pen, I have turkeys and guineas. Quick history - 10 of my original flock are 8 months old (8 hens, 2 roos). The other 6 hens are almost 6 months old and I got them from the same person. The new hens were in the pen...

    Guinea - 3 weeks old

I am getting some guinea that will be 3 weeks old when I get them (couple more weeks). We are turning an older chicken coop into a new coop/run just for the guinea. Can they go out in that at this age, or do they need to still be in a box w/light etc? The pen will be completely covered so...

We moved.....our new chicken coop and chickens!

We moved from the city 6 months ago out to our remote place in the woods. We had 4 hens back in the city, 2 of which I believe neighbors killed. The other 2 I gave to a neighbor in the country to keep them safe. We built a new chicken coop/run and got all new chickens. Started with 12 -11...

My ducks are laying eggs IN the pond

My ducks that I got a few months ago are now laying eggs IN the pond. My husband and teen are getting them out and eating them.....I cannot bring myself to do that. It's a very large pond out in the woods so they spend majority of the time in it. How can I get them to lay eggs on the ground...

    2nd Chicken Dead!

What the heck!!! I've now lost my 2nd chicken in just over 2 weeks. And these were my strongest 2. Lucy was acting weird and died within 24 hours of when I noticed she wasn't "right", but we found Thelma dead outside the coop this morning. She was FINE yesterday!! No symptoms that we...

Help!! Buff orp is not right!!

I need help.....one of my buffs.....the most active and vocal one....suddenly today has not wanted to eat or talk at all. She is staying away from the others and seems like she is trying to cackle but can't...almost like wheezing. We can't see anything obvious and not sure what to do if...

    Egg had a foamy texture

I get fresh eggs from my hens daily, and I just cracked one open this AM to scramble and noticed a clump of foam in it. I threw it out not knowing what that meant -haven't seen it ever before. Wondering if anyone knows what caused that? I do not have a rooster so no chick possibilities either.

    Molting??

I only have 4 hens and they free-range in the backyard all day. I have seen one of the buffs (Lucy) who is fairly aggressive pecking and eating the butt feathers off the other buff (Louise) who is the least aggressive in the flock. Louise does tend to run from her and I see no blood but you...

The weekender COOP and our "traveling" chickens!

Ok, had to share this coop my husband built - all and I mean all (nails and screws included) were from a few sections of fence someone threw out. We did not spend a dime. The roof is old tin roof from a shack that was on my property. This little coop was needed in order for us to be able to...

    Can chickens "travel"

I have 4 hens. I also have a "weekend' place that's just under 2 hours from my house - it's out in the country and we intend on moving there next year. We haven't spent any time there in quite a while (not since we got chickens). We are needing to start going for weekends etc. but I need to...

    White tiny bugs on eggs

I found our 4th egg this morning and picked it up, but it had about 8-10 tiny little white bugs crawling on it. I squished them or knocked them off, but wondering what these are? They don't fit the description I've read of mites or lice. This is the first time I've seen them. I plan on...

    My FIRST eggs!

Yay.....finally I have eggs! Funny because my dad came over at lunch and I was complaining that my chickens haven't laid a single egg yet. Told him they might be on the dinner table soon if they don't hurry it up. Well.........I took a bunch of tomatoes out to them a few hours later and...

    Dallas storms

Dallas folks....we are having hard rains right now - more than I've seen in a while! My chicken run has stayed fairly dry with other rains, until now. 3 of 4 of my chickens were all just standing out under the coop but still getting wet....only 1 of them actually went into the dry coop. I'm...

If it's a vitamin deficiency, when should you see improvements?

My buff orpington that I posted about a couple of weeks ago with the crooked neck.........I have been giving her 200 IU of vitamin E oil out of the capsules daily since then. At what point would you see improvement if that was the cause? She is still not as active as she was and seems to lay...

I think my coop "reconstruction" made my chickens CRAZY!

My dear DH built me a great coop before we got our 4 pullets......we've had them for over a month now and since I'm the one caring for their needs daily, I wanted him to make some "adjustments" to the coop. The coop itself really had nothing in it - floor lined with hay and one very low roost...

Lump or hump thing on neck or shoulder (pics)

I just noticed today that my precious and favorite chicken, Ms. Louise, has this lump thing on the right side of her neck/shoulder area. She reminds me of my own neck, like it's cocked to the side (mine is due to jaw being broken). I felt of it and it feels like a rather small and hard lump on...

    Americauna or EE???

I just got my girl "Fred" last weekend as an americauna...........after reading many posts here, I'm wondering if she's really an EE? Can anyone tell by this pic? She is fairly small, very docile and low key.
