Questions About BBB's and Rio Grande's As Pets / Feed Concerns

Hi! We recently got several BBB poults and a whole bunch of assorted Cochin Bantam and Polish chicks. We lost two of the poults (and two chicks) early on and replaced the two we lost with two Rio Grande's. Everyone is housed together and is doing well at 3 weeks even with the obvious size...

    Hatching Turkey eggs..?

Does anyone have photos of the eggs they are hatching? My boyfriend works at the local feed store and they have a lot of turkeys, chickens, and peacocks that they let wander the premises. Last Friday he brought home an egg that he thinks is a turkey egg. I doubt it will hatch but I put it under...

This has to be a rooster, right?

That is precious! One of my dogs was overly curious about my chicks so I made him lay down, put all 7 chicks on his back and made him look at me, he wasn't even allowed to turn around and look at them. Then I took a photo, the look on his face is, "Mom. I HATE you!" That was how he learned that...

    Strange Looking Eggs

I get these maybe once a month or so, it has only happened 3 or 4 times ever out of my 13 hens and my chickens started laying in October (about 7 months altogether now). The inside of the egg appears normal and since it happens rarely I'm not too concerned. Also, every one of my gigantic eggs...

Which Of My Chickens Lays White Eggs / Who Is This Chick's Mom?

This one is my new "Mystery Chick." She hatched out of a white egg. Her Dad is either a Black Silkie or a Golden Laced Cochin Bantam. I think the identity of her father will become visible over time. But who is Mom? My chick is mostly black with white on her wing tips, yellow on her belly, and...

    Do I have a roo?

I have had females develop their combs are different rates, some faster than others so a fast growing comb does not always mean you have a boy.Can you see any waddles yet? If so, are they red? My Golden Laced Cochin Bantam was obviously a Roo at 2.5 weeks. He had bright red waddles forming...

What Kind of Chicks Did I Get This Year?

I got a better photo of Baby #5 and guess what? Another egg hatched last night, this is my Cinco de Mayo chick! I need to come up with an appropriate name. This one is a real mystery to me. Baby #5 She is acting more alert and I think she is going to be just fine. Her pecking injury is healing...

    Silkie Polish mix? Need help.

Ohhh, she's probably a Sultan although a Polish Silkie mix is possible. If she's from a Hatchery I would say she is definitely a Sultan. They look like Polish but have 5 toes.

    Roo or Hen??

For reference, on my profile photo the little tuft of feathers to the left of her eye is what covers her ear hole. The yellow space to the left of that is her ear lobe.

    Roo or Hen??

Look on their head, behind their eyes for their ears. The waddle descends from the earlobes. If you gently move the short feathers away you will see the ear hole. The vent is the chicken's rear. This is where they lay eggs from and poop from. It's a multi-purpose hole, lol!

    Needing help!

The waddles gave him away, he's almost definitely a boy. I say almost because there is always one that surprises you but I doubt there is any way this could be a girl. Hope that's okay and you can keep him!
