Thank you, we've become attached to "her" lol
Any habitat recommendations?
I worry a regular cage would be too small..
But them again, I'm used to chickens.
They're the only birds I've kept. Lol
I'm almost positive its the same one..I've never seen another in the area and she is now there all...
Hey all!
We had this sweet girl visit us about 2 weeks ago, maybe closer to 3.
I assume its because of my hens, and the available feed, but she is now here everyday, almost all day. She's even started staying in our tall bush/trees at night.
My chickens don't even chase her off anymore.
She...
Oh no, I hope you find him!
Welcome to all the new people!
I've been so busy, I've checked in and read some, but haven't posted in forever...
I got my first batch of meat chicks in...what a learning curve.
I love my most promising Russian girl this morning...
I'm sending her off to A&M...
Up to 7, 3 are for a friend :) And then 10 more in April.
I am definitely trying to keep my distance but there is one female who is so..uncharacteristically dainty that she cracks me up.
They are still in the brooder until this weekend. then I will move the bigger ones (5) outside, since they're...
FINALLY got my first Cornish X last week. Lost 5 in the shipment, sold most, and was left with 2. Sooo..I picked up 5, 2 weeks olds yesterday and have 10 more coming through the feed store in April.
They are...clumsy and loud and I'm not sure if I'll miss them (which
I guess is good?)...
He is so big!
I haven't heard from Lisa lately :/
We got our first order of meat birds in!
They are loud and skittish and clumsy and I don't think I'll miss them...which is good lol
I have 7 now, 3 for Laurie, 4 for me.
Then 10 more coming in April. Lets hope i don't wimp out! lol
You're welcome!! :)
I'm enjoying chick sitting lol
But I need to get them out! I love the teeny splash silkie lol.
The birchens and 5 cornish are going home tonight, hen the silkies tomorrw morning.
Hoping I can find the 2 remaining nuggets some buddies!
Have you thought about letting her hatch a few, then selling the chicks? I know your limit is pretty strict.
I tried for 3-4 weeks to break my Silkie before I gave in :/ Even then I put her out once a day to eat and such. She'd do it really fast then run back to her eggs, but she lasted 7 weeks...
So, I started following this post when it was itty bitty! Lol
Happy to say I FINALLY have my first batch of Cornish X on the way :)
I'm only doing 10, as a learning batch, and because we are in a suburb with close neighbors.
A group of us is going in on the order and then getting together...
Yeah...but the Cornish are only...visiting lol
And possibly the turkeys.
I need to find out how..partial they are to one another.
..we may have a Thanksgiving guest
And if they make too much noise they go back to Caroline
Not getting a complaint over gobbles lol
On the lineup is:
Bantam Cochins:
-10 birchen
-15 mottled
-5 buff
-5 white frizzled
Then 5 bantam Delawares and 6 blue Silkies lol
And NONE of them are mine
I've beat chicken math!
was that the Horst guy?
Worst case, you could do the order for IA and sell the rest :)
Sometimes its hard to track down a breed..but there will be plenty of people who wouldn't mind unique cochins around here. Lots of bantam people in Dallas lol
I ALMOST convinced myself to slip in some...
My EE Pearl had silver duckwing coloring :) I just really like it lol
I like the gold duckwing on the roosters though lol
I don't know why some chicks have it and some don't, but it's normal with them :)
When I went to pick out my Blue, I wanted non-vaulted, because she was a month younger than...
If you don't mind a little road trip, you can also pick up your order at Ideal.
If you're able, look on Facebook for a local chicken group :)
Breeders are usually on there as well.
If you decide to order from Ideal, just wait til it's a bit warmer out. I'm about 3 hours from them and got my...
It's probably the vaulted skull. Not every chick will have it.
I think it's desirable in the show world because they have a bigger top knot/poof
But as chicks (and possibly beyond) you have to be careful because they can be more susceptible to brain injury
Gotta watch out for us womens!
What are you going to do with a roo and no hens???
I mean...OBVIOUSLY I'll gladly take them off your hands
Cute babies! And sorry about your hatch rate, but I mean...you're just starting out in the scheme of things.
It'll get better!
