Three months ago we moved to "the country". The chickens have been so happy getting to run around a large 6' fenced yard but alas last week two chickens were chomped by a fox! It looks like the fox snuck in under the fence during the day, yesterday he came back for more but we were outside and...
Oh god, I'm playing Stardew Valley. It's a peaceful little game about gardening and living in a small community. It's ridiculously addictive for such a silly game.
I collect the fines a couple of times a week and just put it in a clean pasta sauce jar add enough water to get everything wet but not runny and I just let it sit in my kitchen. The girls like it just fine that way and after a few days it ferments a bit and they LOVE it that way as well.
What kind of feed are you using? I use organic feed that comes with seeds that the girls love to pick out and then they leave the "fines" behind with all the vitamins and minerals. I started making a mash out of the left behind fines and they love it. Since then no more soft or shell-less eggs...
Friends are the best. I had gotten a little couch-locked playing a new video game for hours on end. She came over on Sunday and we went out to the garden. Put the last potted plants into the ground and cleared out some determined blackberry bushes. My compost bin is chock full! I will have to...
My girls have been laying for about two months now for the first time. We switched them from medicated crumbles to Cluck and Peck organic feed with corn and soy when they started laying and they have access to free feed oyster shells. One of my girls a white easter egger is laying soft/shell...
It has been a few glorious weekends here in Portland, OR. I made a lot of progress clearing a bunch of brush, planted a bunch of fruit trees.
One day while I was outside a migrant worker drove by and asked if I had any work. Luckily I had some cash on me (I NEVER carry cash anymore) and I got...
I'm so excited! We went out yesterday and bought a bunch of fruit trees and bushes! I have my seedlings going indoors and I'm still working on getting the beds into shape!
Good Morning! I got a good amount of work done in the garden over the weekend. I turned the compost, finished off some dry brick steps leading up my chicken coop and started work on terracing the garden patch!
I got the first terrace down and next weekend I'll do another. Maybe if I'm feeling...
I was considering putting up some plastic around the lower part of the run to try and keep their run a bit dryer and block some of the draft. READY FOR SNOW!
It's pouring and dark out and I just want to play in the garden. I suppose I will have to settle with choosing what plants to start indoors later this month.
