THis is my third time incubating but this time I don't have an auto egg turner. I have 15 eggs in an LG styrofoam bator witha fan.
I am super annoyed by the fact that when I turn the eggs, they frequently roll to what might be the same spot. I am worried they will end up spending too much time...
Hi everyone!
I am going to pick up a used universal brooder like this one today. http://www.randallburkey.com/Universal-Box-Type-Brooder-w_-2-Bulbs/productinfo/0534/
I am getting it for 100, so seems like a good deal. I was just curious if anyone had one and what their opinions were. Any...
So my EE Helga kicked the bucket this weekend. I had noticed she was getting thinner for a few weeks but thought maybe I was just imagining it. She also stopped "crowing" in the morning but was still laying.
Friday I noticed she was really week and stumbling and her comb was pale. By Sunday...
Ok this is probably totally dumb, but heck I'm going to ask it anyway.
I had a rather unsuccessful hatch so I grabbed some various chicks at my local farm store, including some Easter Eggers. I tried to get ones with different markings. One is a peach color, almost white. It had a marker streak...
Ok so unforutnatley of my eight silkie eggs only 2 made it to lockdown and only one has hatched so far. I was planning on being able to separate the silkies from the marans and Ameraucanas if they started beating up on the little things. But with only one, I don't want it to be alone.
Do you...
So at two weeks old my eight chicks are already outgrowing their brooder box and are filling up their water container with shavings like 3 times a day. So i moved half of them to another small cage in an effort to cut down on traffic a little.
I am acquiring a larger coop to put them in when...
Ok so I finished a hatch last week and have cleaned out the styrofoam bottom of the Hovabator 1602. Problem is...I had one chick with some bleeding and there is a lot f staining (possilby still material?) in the cracks of a few areas. I don't think I could get it out without scrubbing off the...
So my chick that hatched 5 hours ago is still dragging the rest of its egg shell around. It is still attached some how though I'm not sure how...its hard to see in the little hovabator.
Any ideas? is this bad? Is it normal to take a little longer to separate?
Any other St. Paddy's Day Hatchers?
So putting the eggs in lockdown tonight....hoping for some little chickies soon! Not sure what my final count in lockdown will be...17 have made it so far but I'm pretty sure several of those haven't developed. Still have some olive eggers, easter eggers...
Ok forgive me if this is a totally stupid question. New chicken owner!!
So my easter egger hen I inherited has been crowing in the morning the last few weeks. It's definitely a she, she definitely lays eggs. ANd no its not as much of a crow as a roosters, but its still loud. I worry about it...

I am on day six of incubating and candled the eggs again today. Threw away a few unfertilized eggs and saw some good veining in the others.
My question: How big should the air cell be at this stage? Some of my eggs had as much as air cell or blank space in there. Is my humidity to low, or is...
So I candled my eggs today, I set evening of 2/24 so I guess it is the fourth day. I have a mix of olive eggers, welsummers ameraucanas, and easter eggers.
I was able to candle some of the more blue eggs and saw veining on a good portion (yay!). I tried the welsummers but it was hard to see...
Well I finally found a downside to my delicious backyard eggs.
i tried to make some pink cupcakes yesterday and they turned the batter orange! Now those are some bright yolks! LOL
So the outside humidity level right now is 60-80 percent. I am getting ready to set a hatch tomorrow night. Is this going to mess with my eggs? I put a little water in my incubator and am warming it up to temperature, and its sitting about 75%. Is this really bad?
So I am nervous and getting ready to set my first eggs. I have an LG 9200 that I bought in case I couldn't get a hold of one. I am hoping to return it if I don't need. I also have a n olderHov a Bator 1602 that I was able to borrow that has an egg turner. I'm assuming the egg turner could be...

Just wanting to know I guess in case an emergency came up. How does one kill one's chicken?
Perhaps this sounds naive (ok I KNOW its naive), and I don't have a problem with putting a chicken down if need be...but I don't know how to do it....an axe? Not sure if I even have one or how I would...
This is my last one to ID. Itsy is a tiny hen. All I know is that she is at least one year old, possibly two or three.
What in the world is she? She is very small...half the size of my silkie and silkie mutts. And the girl can fly if she feels like it, she nearly got away from us when we...
