Hi Dennarahl, We insulated and very rarely bring out the heat lamps. I'm not sure we had to, but glad we did. We have a thermometer in the coop and it is alway 15 degrees warmer or so in the coop than outside. So far no frostbite! Have fun with your little chicks!

Hi Colorado! Anyone know where I might find an araucana or maran pullet? I'd like one more girl to fill out our little flock and thought colorful eggs would be fun. These girls are family pets so they would go to a full and loving home! Thanks, Stacy

What do you all do for disease prevention? I was reading about one of my Step-dad's friends in Kansas who dusts all of her chickens bottoms with powder for mite prevention and dips their feet in iodine for bumblefoot prevention. My chickens appear healthy, but I am still new to this. Should I be...

Yea for eggs in subzero temps! We got 2 yesterday and none yet today. I've been out 2 times so far. No signs of frostbite but was thinking maybe I should just put vaseline on anyway. I really did not think the girls would lay when it is this cold outside. Been switching galvanized founts out...

Hi everyone, I have a aracauna mix rooster that I'd like to give away. Got him from a man in Golden...I'm new to this so I'm not sure what you might like to know about him. Got him a few months ago. He was supposed to be a pullet but he is growing up a rooster. I really can't keep him due to...

Thanks for the welcome! I have 2 waterers and change them before and after work....they are usually frozen solid! I keep looking for frostbitten combs or lethargic birds...so far we've been lucky. What do others do when it gets awful outside? I was trying to attach a picture from Christmas...
