Oooh, someone has clearly never watched Babe and heard Ferdinand the Duck talking about how "Christmas means carnage!" because they eat ducks on Christmas! ;D Yep, duck is expensive because they can't be raised in tiny cages like chickens so well, but very good! I honestly don't like duck...

What, so ducks don't give back with eggs? They ARE birds after all! Ducks lay eggs like a champ! Most breeds lay 100-150/yr, but many have been bred to lay like chickens up to 300/yr! Some wild breeds and landraces will naturally lay 180/yr which aint half bad. Duck eggs are bigger, carry twice...

Is that videos or ideas? XD Personally I can make a near perfect chick sound to the point that people cant tell it ISNT the chicks... But the way it is done requires you to curl the sides of your tongue up and that is a genetic trait only like 25% of people have... but basically you put your...

This can put the aircell in the wrong spot or cause it to detach if it gets bumped around, or in late development it can cause the chicks to be malpositioned for pipping and hatching. I think those are the problems with it and its more common for shipped eggs to have those issues.

I bet other Feminine Products such as those lovely cotton tubes would be cheaper and work just as well!

Well, hatching is over on day 20. Three chicks came out quite nicely, each like 4 hours apart like clockwork. The fourth was the chick with a saddle cell egg. The aircell was so badly detached that on day 18 when I candled, a good 8th of the egg had a membrane that would roll away from the...

Well, we have one internal pip, two external pips and one fully hatched chick! It can't seem to get one of it's feet under it... It's toes are just curled and it has trouble standing so I stuck it in my brooder to get it off of slick floors. I have read that brooders should be around 100*? Mine...

Have you considered that it is your heating pad? I have a very limited knowledge of such things, but my understanding is that in significant temperature drops, heating elements can over heat themselves just trying to maintain their original function.

Mine stays the exact correct temperature within 0.1*C all the time unless I open it, in which case it is back up to temp in less than five minutes. But mine is super fancy and expensive an stuff. I got it specifically to hatch out fancy shipped eggs and the like and since they sent us the...

Yeah, well I just don't want a rush of sorting the chicks into their brooder in the morning right before I go out to the feed store... With my luck that will be exactly what happens though!

My chirping eggs have become chirping eggs and one pipped egg! I got to watch the Pip happen right in front of me... and right before bed of course. 9_9 Just my luck I will wake up tommorow and they will have finished hatching already right before I have to run to the feed store...

I have a trilling whistle-like call I use to command my chickens. I can get them to either come to me or herd them exactly where I want with a few careful and exaggerated arm movements and that trill. It gets their attention instantly and they then watch me for what I want VERY carefully when I...

Southchick, I am starting to think I would like you to bring me those Wheaten AM eggs after all... And you have Blue &C marans, too? Do you sell those or are you just hatching 'em? Because if you sell them maybe you could bring me 7 of those and some of the others... XD

Beee! *hugs* I can't wait to hear more about this! I think I need photos like, now! I set up my brooder... It seems to be holding steady near 98-100 and I don't even really have the lamp that low... I feel like I could set up a decent incubator in my basement with using this big 'ol brooder...

Dolfi, when rabbits breed they run in circles for a while. That's normal. Then the buck mounts, does his thing and will growl/squeal and fall off backwards or sideways when he's done. :P That tends to happen 3-4 times in a "session". Then you either learn to palpate (kinda tricky, you feel the...

I have heard reports all across the board about hatching eggs that get xrayed not developing properly, or coming out fine... The point is, much like I don't want my food irradiated like they do in China, I don't want my hatching eggs xrayed. I'd simply rather not take the risk when I have heard...
