Pullets will often lay double yokers when they first start laying eggs. When the potential egg starts on its journey, sometimes they "get lost", so when another egg is released, it catches up with the first one and they travel down together and make a double yoker. They will do this for a few...
Araucanas are rumples chickens and have little tuffs (not muffs like EEs) off the side of their faces. You have EEs. You will love them. They are the best!
Hahahaha! When is it NOT breeding season to a rooster????? My rooster is non-stop! He must be every man's fantasy! He even breeds with the ducks! Male or female! My husband swears he saw our rooster even have a "Go" at a hole in a stump!
Hahahaha! My EE was giving me the "stink eye" when I was trying to take pictures of the Indian Runner Ducks to sell them on Craig's List. I don't think she liked the idea of one of her friends going away! They are like family!
Since these are EEs and they are considered "mutts" and there are no standards to follow, I would choose the sweetest one. I've had two roosters. One was sweet to the ladies and never gave me a mean look. Sadly, he died..we think of secondary poisoning. The next rooster we had, I also...
Haven't been on this thread in a while. Thought I would post some photos.
Here are my two EE as chicks:
Here they are now:
Willow (chick on left)
Zoe is the hen in the middle and the chick on the right in the photo. I love her pattern. You would have to blow the picture up to see it. The...
Don't forget to watch Larry the Cable Guy on "Only in America" on the History channel this Wednesday. He will be at Cackles Hatchery. Should be interesting.
The bears here in Ga are the black bears. The are non aggressive and will run away easily. If we had seen him lurking around we would have gone outside and clapped our hands and told it to "Go Home!" and it would have run away. But, we didn't see it and we are sure it only went in to get the...
We just put up an electric fence. Also put up our game camera to see what comes. Found out the duck that died was the male. At least it didn't get the female.
The Silkie was a fabulous mom. We lost her to a bear last night! Makes me sick. I am sure she was protecting the one baby that we kept! We lost 4 other chickens and a runner duck. Our coop and run are very strong...only weak spot was the door...and that is what got torn apart! So my...
She may be too young, but if you have older hens you can put their fertile eggs under her. I did that with two of my hens this summer. Got eggs from my neighbor. They all hatched!
