I agree , I have a large brooder gives the younger ones room to move around, the biggest issue is the larger chicks squishing the smaller ones as they are not aggressive towards the others just bigger. With more space though I have less issues
just too bad there customer service wasn't better as far as calling people back when you have questions .
My turner works but makes a clicking noise. called them 3 times no answer no return calls. I figure if the turner does go out ill go from there.
Maybe check your state thread for locals that you can drive to and meet up with. Unshipped eggs should help your hatch. You can fine tune your incubator on local craigslist mixed breed eggs.
The vigor of the mixes may give you a better idea of how its working.
yep
lol. honestly I am sure either way would work great
I know I have hatched too many chicks to count over the years and when I walk down and ask my chickens they don't complain about the Red light days from there youth.
My Penedesenca still lay about 200 eggs a year like they are supposed to...
inside yes outside no.
I use a red light which in the day is much lighter at night it darkens when the sun goes down.
I can't trust the heat emitters since I can not see if they are actually working. gets too cold outside.
been working great for years. Heat emitters are great though and agree...
Right now mine are outside under my carport in a 2x 4 brooder this time a year I use a basic red light 250 keeps them cosey as they age I switch to full spectrum. 75 then 65 watt plant lights. The light is 2 ft up. Chicks that just hatch to 1 week are in a fish tank in the house with a 75 watt...
So what do you all think of this ? Ron out here and I are going to try it. A friend of mine that is extremely experienced mentioned to try this before shipping eggs set them for a day in the incubator she mentioned the developing embryo seems to travel better similar to like when a hen is saving...
Good idea. By mid next month our temps should start to moderate . it is holding real steady temp wise just humidity swings.
maybe ill try a dry hatch in it next time
what was the humidity at that time? On my R-Com I run it at 35% the first 18 days. last year when I got it i did it at 45% and was getting great hatches so hopefully you will be ok.
you put any water in my genesis and it shoots up to 50-55% so I am debating trying to dry hatch in that one...
I don't have that issue at all in my R-com if it develops it hatches now the genesis fluxes a ton so maybe I'll try it on that one. Shipped eggs are tougher since you never know how there going to be packaged
i think the humidity factor may depend on area of the country.
35% works great for me in my dry climate.
the only thing i would change is figuring out how to keep my genesis over 20 and below 50%
even adding the slightest amount of water kicks it up to like 50-55% then i have to vent it more...
Personally I just use Nutrena all flock for all My birds. I blend it in the processor some to make it smaller and mix in some non medicated starter about 33% works great for me. I put dirt in the brooder to , seems to help build immunity
