I'm CSzabo on Ravelry and I have a children's hat pattern on my project page. I knit them for my nieces for Christmas and they were easy and quick. I forgot about the search engine but yes - it's a wonderful feature!
Check out www.ravelry.com - it's free and they have a ton of great free patterns. I've found alot of easy hat patterns there and have learned alot. If you want to learn how to do a specific stitch, just do a search on the stitch name. There's alot of videos out there that show you step by...
Welcome and I think it's great that you knit!!! I keep trying to talk DBF into it but it ain't happening. Can't wait to see pics!!!!
NW - love the hats!!!!
Thanks! I figured that out but after the fact. Kinda learning as I go. I did manage to figure out how to do the heel and I'm working on the body of the foot now. Will post a pic when I finish. All I can say is thank goodness for you-tube!!!!
WOW You do beautiful work!!!!! I'm going to need alot of help today because I'll be starting the heel soon. It dawned on me this morning about the stockinette stitch and why mine didn't look right. I'm working on two circular needles and only knitting on the right side.
Here's a pic of...
I bought this book and am making the multi-colored sock laying under the blue sock in this picture. The pattern calls for 5 inches of the stockinette stitch after the ribbing and that's what I'm on now, but doesn't this picture look like it's all garter stitch? My sock isn't looking like this...

I'm definitely not an expert but I think they are saying to continue rows 1 and 2. The garter stitch is just the knit stitch, and the stockinette is alternating rows of knit and purl which is basically what rows 1 and 2 are but you will end up with a two stitch garter stitch (just...
Hi Tammy! Welcome! I'm a relatively new knitter and I just started my first sock. It's about 2 inches long now Someday I hope to finish.
Pics please!!! Would love to see your purse and anything else you'd like to share!
Sure - here you go. I used a size 8 circular needle and finished with size 8 double pointeds. I have a tendency to knit tight so you'll have to play this by ear. My son has a 21 1/2" sized head. I used a medium weight, worsted 100% acrylic yarn for the first hat and casted on 80. I used a...
Thanks - I'll tell him! I think Rosie Greer used to knit, if I remember correctly! (Football player) Baustin, please do post a pic!!!! I was in the yarn aisle a few weeks ago. There was a middle-aged couple with their daughter (probably 9-10). The DD was looking at the yarn and a sock book...
Welcome all! Glad I'm not the only knitting newbie! Gardenmom, I think it's great that your son enjoys knitting! DBF watches me intently and I know he'd like to try but can't get past the "man stigma"
I've knitted two beanies for my DS from a super-simple pattern I found. If you are...
Oh Posey that is awesome advice!! I absolutely hate working on the double pointed needles. I did buy a "how to knit socks" book and it gives instructions for using two circulars so I bought those too. Just need to make sure I've got the hats figured out before I move on. I did check my gauge...
It looks great! When it gets too small for the circular needles, slip the remaining stitches on to 3 double pointed needles. Knit off one onto a 4th empty needle, etc until there's only a few stitches left and then end it off. Kudos to you for your creativity!!!!!

Hi LilRalphieRoosmama.
When we knit anything that we want to "fit" ourselves or someone else, gauge is essential.
Here are some things to check:
1. what is the gauge of the pattern you are using? How many stitches and rows to 4 inches?
2. What gauge of yarn are they suggesting you...
