Peafowl are also awful for shipping. I got twelve of those a couple weeks ago. Six started to develop and are still trucking along. That's actually really amazing for pea eggs.
The trouble is, they don't send infertile eggs. The eggs develop and then don't hatch. They said they would send fertile eggs, and they did.
Could be shipping issues, maybe the seller's local hub is too hard on the eggs. Or maybe just the two of us have really bad luck, maybe others do hatch...
You know, not to besmirch anyone, but I think the woman you are buying eggs from (on eBay, correct?) I also got eggs from two years ago, and none of them hatched for me either. So of them started, but none made it to hatch. So it might not be you. Or we both just had really bad luck with the...
I'm trying to hunt down some more goose eggs but it's a bad time of year for it. I have one gander from this year that we all got attached to but I don't want to breed so he needs his own pen and I was hoping to get another gosling to go in that pen with him. Not a lot of luck. Might just end up...
I'm really sorry :( Are they illegal where you are or was the neighbor just complaining?
If you need a good home for them you can send them my way, I can walk you through shipping them too.
I breed Tufted Romans, the smallest domestic breed. Mine often hatch on day 28. What I do is just wait until I see dip down and lock down then. Most times that falls on day 25 or 26 for me. But being a smaller breed, that's why. The larger breeds definitely take longer.
I suspect that it was some children who thought goose eggs would be cool to have and stole them out of her nest. All the eggs were gone, even the fake ones I had in there to show them where to lay this season.
I'm sure she'll hatch them and be happy. She loves chicks. The trick will just be...
Good luck with all your hatches! I'm done for the year unless my year old female decides she does actually want to lay this year. My older girl gave me about eight eggs before she went broody. I hatched about four of those, a couple at the start were infertile (the year old gander was still...
Even when I ship I guarantee fertility. I won't guarantee that they will hatch, but I will at least guarantee they're fertile. That's too bad if the seller won't replace the eggs for you if they all don't do anything :(
Sometimes you can see something on day 4, but not always. I've had eggs I thought there was nothing going on in suddenly show life on day 10, no joke. Usually by day 6 you can see development, though.
Congrats! I hope you have a great hatch!
So sorry you lost it :( From what you were describing it did likely die last night sometime. But congrats on your other happy, healthy babies :)
How long has the little one been externally pipped? I'm a hands on hatcher so I'm always fiddling with my eggs, lol. Sometimes they do need help.
Thanks!
I've never had the yelling with mine either so I'm not sure what's going on with that. My gander does sit in the coop sometimes with my broody girl to keep her company and help her guard the nest, but that's it.
I had two new hatchers this weekend! And one more on the way that seems to have...
