I've only hatched once but I can tell you embryos do sleep. I had some each time I candled they would sit there looking dead and next time they'd be wriggling and others would be resting.
I'd say all the one's like 1 are probably just resting.
2 and 7 may have never been fertile.
4 is...
PICS! For those who need 'em
First three pics while they were still in the 'bator. Didn't make as much of a mess as I was expecting, then again, there was only the 7 of 'em.
Group shot
SO excited, is this a blue (possibly mottle?) and two lavs?
Silkies at the back, bantam Cochins at the...
All out!!! Of 7 fertile on day 3 all 7 have hatched and look healthy
Since it's after 10pm I pulled the second plug out and I'll leave them in the 'bator over night. I don't want to risk chilling them moving them to the brooder overnight.
Now I can go to bed happy knowing they are all out and...
Well my last egg is torturing me. It piped hours ago and is just sitting there and I want it to hurry up so I can pull the other plug and dry out my babies ready for the brooder.
They are drying ever so slowly and I think I need to revise my guessed colors. My ones I thought were black or...
My pips popped! Looks like another blue bantam Cochin and a possibly white silkie.
My last egg is piping now so it looks like it won't be long till I can pull the other plug, dry them out and move them to the brooder.
I can't believe how tiny and cute they are!
I sympathize with you. I checked the 'bator last thing before bed last night, BAD move, 6 of 7 were pipped! Needless to say I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.
I'm a momma!
4 little chickies out, looks like 3 bantam Cochins, possible colors buff, black or cuckoo, blue and one black Silkie!
Number 5 & 6 look like they are starting to zip and 7 doesn't look to be doing much but the chicks scooted it away from the windows to where it's hard to see...

Sudafed to clear the congestion, then the sniff test.
I'm suspicious I have one in my lot due next week so I'll be sniffing tonight.
Good luck, hope no one sees you doing it, we sure must look crazy!

Yup, chick starter has a higher % of protein. It will also have different levels of vitamins and minerals for optimal chick development.
The brand I use has for layer hens: Pullet Starter till 8 weeks, Pullet Grower till 14 weeks, Pullet Developer till POL or first egg and then...
I have pips! My first ever incubation and I have pips!!!
At midnight I had 6 of 7 pipped with the 7th rocking. This morning still 6 of 7 pipped but the holes are larger on 2 or 3 of them
Can't wait to meet my fuzzy butts!
Well my 7 are in lockdown, nervously waiting for them to do something. Should be hatching from late tomorrow my time and I am trying hard to stay out of the spare room.
So sorry to hear about your Aunt passing Terri.
My egg chart said I should have gone into lockdown yesterday with my remaining 7 but last night candling them there is still way to much fluid in there and the egg isn't full of chick yet. I think my early temps might have been off a little...
My chart says lockdown is on Monday for me and mine should be hatching on 27th. Just had a temp spike to 104f so not impressed.
Have to collect my hatcher tomorrow and set it up ready so it's ready. Really excited about my first ever hatch and desperately hoping the spike hasn't killed them.
My 7 are developing nicely. Just bought a new, stronger torch so I can have a better look in there
Worried about the humidity though, outside air is 93% so I'm really hoping it dries out a bit. I don't think even ducks like THAT much humidity and I sure don't!
Still I shouldn't complain...
