This is without doubt the best colored Blue Sumatra I have ever seen!

Not much cold weather in CA. I woke up to 50° this morning.., granted it is going to rain, but it hasn't gotten lower than sixty daytime in like two months. Gets down to about 35/40 at night. My chickens think it spring. This is not normal for us either, as we haven't gotten any rain. Governor...

You misread. It says soft feathered light. As in it is a light breed with soft feather. That article is similar to the classes at shows in countries outside North America. They have soft and hard feathered breeds, in light and heavy weights.

I have a feeling the picture in the standard had something to do with the hovering tail.

Champ, most if not all Sumatras do not contain Pg. Instead they have what is called edging, which is just an accumulation of pigment at the edge of the feathers. it is harder to breed for edging, which is why most blue chickens are so hard to retain color. This is why some breeders of...

The Pacific Poultry Breeders Association show held in Stockton, CA (which Walt and I are both a part of) will have 6 Judges this year from 6 different states. This is not for any specialty shows either, just our show that we hold every year. Stating that I don't believe you know anything would...

Zach that was the exact point I was making. Catching a bird in its real pose where it looks like it does in person is practically impossible. She does have great length, and I'm sure other features improve with her mood. Congrats on your winnings as well.

Well we all have an opinion, and I will leave things like length from a picture, or birds mood out. Zach does have a good hen, but If I judge the bird in the picture, I'd say that the legs are too short, the tail is too low, wings too low, feathers too soft, and the breast flat. But it is hard...

My favorite part is her tail. The standard calls for 15° ABOVE horizontal, but yet so many have tails lower. For example, I drove out to Indiana and showed at the Crossroads show(as a junior). The champion and reserve AOSB for juniors had lower tail angles, when showing and excited, than the...

Champion, I don't think the bone on this black hen can get much thicker. Look at her legs.

Australorps are great, but not as great as Mr. Sherman's cockerels, but I did take 1 and 2 on Pullets against his. But the sudden drop in temps is creating for a spree of colds in all the birds so no more showing till mid January. Hasn't been a great year but were pushing on.

Khaki Dun and Black breed the same as the blue variations. Blue and Dun are equivalent and splash/khaki are equivalents. Dun + Khaki = 1/2 Dun, 1/2 Khaki

I did one big cull and got rid of about 60. I constantly cull for color on my whites and black birds so I've probably culled in excess of 200 birds to this point. Still many more to go. Unfortunately a friend in Southern California got hurt and had to get rid of their birds, they still had a...

Chickens of any breed require 24+ hours to develope a single egg. It takes a long time to form in the reproductive tract(6 or more hours alone in one, of many sections of the tract). Your Sumatras look good! I especially like the third to last bird, a blue cockerel with a blue band. As to wet...
