I've got a very prolific layer here. Her cycle appears to be a shorter one than usual, because with 4 pullets, I'm getting 5 eggs per day. She is the only brown egg layer in with 3 pullets that lay green eggs. It is very interesting to say the least. Unless the rooster has started laying.

That is my concern as well, injury. That Orp/Aussie is huge. I have one chocolate rooster in with 2 bantam hens, they don't get hurt. He doesn't attempt to tread them, doesn't need to. Much more gentlemanly behavior.

Speaking of hormones...cockerels are coming into their testosterone. I am rehoming my Aussie that is to be culled to a nice pet home. He took a point off my little Isbar cockerel that I am keeping for breeding. I have one blue Orp/Aussie cockerel terrorizing the pullets he is with in the grow...

Maybe you have Austrawhites? It's a cross with Australorp and Leghorn. They will be predominantly white with some black markings and will be fantastic layers.

There are some differences with Aussie versus American. I like the Aussie standard myself. We have very few working on blues here is the US. I used English Orpington pullets with my black Australorp roo. Big boy is one of those offspring and I think the splash cockerel is as well. The...

Here are some of my babies at about 8-9 weeks. We've got some Orpington to breed out, some are from my Blue Orp/Aussie mix. A few are from another fellow in TN, he could not remember exactly where he got the foundation stock and didn't know that blue Aussies are that rare. I think they are out...

Awww that is sweet. My former bossy britches has taken a step down since molting. I have a gorgeous young hen who refuses to stand still for a good photo. Maybe when I get some foraging pens together....

Oh no, there are. It's just very hard to find. There is a line from Taylor farms I located but the quality of what I've hatched isn't up to my standard of what I would sell on byc just yet. I'm looking for show quality black Aussies to breed to the blues I've hatched from this breeder, and...

If Oreo is mature, he may take over as the boss and be fine. Otherwise, he may be beat up. Putting one into a group of established chickens is a gamble.

Looks like you got a mixed breed. Sometimes breeders will cross anything blue into Australorps to get the blue genes. I have been working on a project with blue Orpingtons and will have blue Australorps in a few generations from that cross, and found a line of Taylor farms blue Australorps I'm...

I'm so sorry. I wish I could convince my husband that chicken wire is not enough. I bought the hardware cloth. I can't use a hammer but I am so tempted to beg my brother to help me. I have even tried to point out how much money I have out there in those pens. You'd think that would help...
