finally have the coop together! Also have the saddle on one of my hens (Dorothy), her poor back has no feathers on it, got the saddle to protect her and hopefully her feathers will start growing back soon!!
so I was recently given two chicks from my neighbors to add to my flock, they seem about 7 or 8 weeks old so I know they're okay outside but my 3 BR and 2 RIR seem to be bullying my little white one. When should I draw the line? Cayse they're already pulling tail feathers and it's barely day...
Looks like the flock of baby chickens is growing and always a good idea to keep a heating lamp that for a while until you notice they don't need it anymore. I am loaded with a variety oh baby chicks from Rhode Island red, Wyandotte, Plymouth Rock, Bantam, and the majority of them are Australorp...
I'm downsizing my flock and I have 2 hens left to sell. Both are about 1.5 years old, healthy, and laying about an egg a day.
1 Rhode Island Red (RIR)
1 Black Australorp
Make an offer. I can accept cash or trade for plants, seeds, produce, etc.

I bought a few rhode islands a while back and they haven't been growing as much as I would have expected them to... I thought it may just be because rhode islands are slow growing chickens but then today I went and purchased a few rooster because I needed some for my other hens and one of the...
Here goes my new flocks that I had recently started on. Blue Rooster of Delaware, Rhode Island Red, and a black Laced Sliver Wyandotte Hen. My gray rooster had gotten into a fight with one of my other roosters last year and lost one of his foot. Right now he is happy with his new open coop 15 ft...
This is my (hopefully) girl, Penny. She is the only one who actually seems to like me-- she tries to fly out of the brooder to get to me and likes sitting on my shoulder. Just wanted to share because she is adorable.
Hey everybody! My family has recently bought a new house. It’s got a pond for our ducks and lots of space for our chickens to forage in, but unfortunately, our current chicken coop isn’t mobile, and we have to buy or build a new one when we move. However, there is a 12 x 14 foot shed on the...
I am new to keeping backyard chickens and this is my first experience with a sick chicken. This hen is a Rhode Island Red, she’s about a year and a half old (she’s currently molting). We live in Iowa where the weather has been cold the last few weeks. This weekend I noticed a severe case of comb...
Hi all,
I have noticed my Rhode Island Reds (3) are developing red lines on their feet (image below). I have heard that some types have these, but can’t work out if it’s Scaly Leg Mites or something else??!! Help appreciated. The flock are 3.5/4 months old and consist of 3 RIR (1 cockerel). Thanks.
Hi
My rhode island red rooster about 5 months old has one leg lame, it is usually lying down and walks crisscrossing. Should i cull the rooster? I have tried giving multivitamins and provide calcium supplements, but no improvement. It seems to get worse as the rooster gains more weight growing up.
Hey there! I read an article a while ago about feeding laying hens grower feed with oyster shells/eggshells on the side instead of layer crumble because layer feed lacks the animal proteins needed for chickens to thrive as well as all-around diversity. I read that laying hens do best on 20%...
