«We Could Be Legends»

Even though Toby couldn't see Peter, he could feel him staring. "No... Alpha. My dog. He'll get hurt. He needs... to hide." Toby said. He knew if he kept talking he would lose focuse, and then his only chance of fighting the Pure would disappear.
"Oh. Yeah." Peter muttered, clumsily getting to his feet. "I'll do that. Can you tell him...?" He asked, not sure if the dog would want to be separated from his owner.

Toby shakily handed Peter Alpha's leash. "Thanks." He mumbled. Alpha didn't even walk away yet, and Toby already wanted him back. He knew it was for the best though, if Alpha died he wouldn't come back. He could be without him for as long as it took for the war to end if it meant Alpha would be safe.

Toby relaxed some, hearing Indigo standing behind him. One of the disadvantages of using the special shadow person, was that Toby felt like he was the one fighting and being shot repeatedly. If he was fighting with a gun it would've been a little easier, but since it was such a large sword he was tiring quickly. "Alpha. Car. Get." Toby mumbled. His speaking was scrambled, but he hoped it was still understandable.

Indigo hesitated at Alpha's vest, but she was sure his life was more valuable to Toby than him not getting touched. And if putting Alpha in the car was what would give Toby better focus, Alpha would go to the car. She watched as Peter grabbed the leash, then focused on forcing the Pure not to fire on Toby's fragile human form.

"You can... you can go help som-someone else. If you want." Toby mumbled. He didn't want her staying with him because she felt like she had to, if there was someone that needed her help more than he did.

"I can, but I don't want to," she said fiercely. Her face was still serene though. The Pure were looking at her like she was one of those masterpiece cakes that were too pretty to eat, and for once she was ok with that. As long as they didn't attack Toby. Then a Pure woman came up behind her, and she let out a scream as the curly-haired brunette raised a smooth, black-handled gun to her head.
But what surprised Indigo more was the words that came out of the woman's mouth before she -Indigo decided Curly was a good name for the woman, at least before they got to a first name basis friendship and all- even thought of shooting.
"You're her daughter, aren't you?" Her calm black eyes studied Indigo as though she had suddenly become an interesting beetle rather than a mortal enemy. Indigo wasn't quite sure whether it was worse to be Curly's beetle or enemy, but either way she narrowed her eyes.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she said. But her eyes flicked to the side fearfully, betraying that it was possible she did know. Suddenly she felt the space close around her, as curious Pure members circled closer around her and Toby.

"Thank you," Toby said. It meant a lot to him that she decided to stay with him instead of going somewhere else.
His eyes flew open, Indigo's scream breaking his concentration. Almost instantly, the shadow man disappeared. He clumsily stood up, but almost instantly fell back down, his legs feeling like jello. Maybe I should just... sit here. No, Indigo is going to get hurt. He grabbed a gun, and pointed it at the Pure woman's head. It was hard for him to get a good shot, as his hands were shaking too badly. As the Pure started to surround them, he felt like a fish trapped in a small glass fishbowl. There was nowhere to run or hide, and the gun that he grabbed only had a few bullets left.

A bullet whizzed past Indigo, but otherwise the Pure just looked at her curiously, especially after Curly gave the trigger-happy man a glare that said I want to here her talk first.
Just kill me now,
thought Indigo. The masked, grinning faces reminded Indigo of clowns from the darkest of a child's nightmares.
"It's No-Name, isn't it?" Curly asked, flinging her bouncy ponytail.
"Not me, I'm not..." Indigo stumbled over her words in a way she usually only did around Toby. She wanted to raise her gun, but if she did, she'd be dead in a moment.

"No... name?" Toby asked, looking between Indigo and Curly. Why does that sound so familiar? The realization dawned on him. "The-the shape-shifter? From twenty years ago? You're not a-a... are you?"

"No," Indigo said. But she stared at her hand, remembering times when she made the pale skin a slightly darker shade. She did have strange qualities where she could could appear to look like other people, even though she couldn't exactly fool anyone, the smoke and mirrors was entrancing.
I can tell you, but I don't exactly want them to know. Can you trust me?

Toby stared at her. He didn't fully believe her, but the look on her face was enough to keep him from asking anymore questions. Not that it mattered, really. Who cared if she could shapeshift? The only problem he had with it was that she would've lied to him by saying she was an enchantress, but that still might've been just leaving out part of the truth. And it wasn't his business, anyway. We need to get away from them, before they kill us. I can't use my powers again without passing out, or worse, dying. He kept the gun trained on Curly's head, and carefully stood up. He looked at Indigo, hoping she had an idea.
