«We Could Be Legends»

"I told you..." Frosty muttered, but his voice faltered. There was concern in the rooster's eyes. He took a step forward, about to ask if anyone here was a healer, but didn't need to. He watched Alice lean down, then turned away from the group. He brought up his foot, clicking the button on it.
The watch-like device lit up, and Frosty muttered a series of random words into it. Nothing happened.
Frosty tried again.
Nothing.
Frosty's face went pale. "C'mon, c'mon! Respond!" He muttered, desperation clawing at his voice. Why isn't the Multitude base replying? They should be replying!
"I have to take my test," Bleddyn insisted stubbornly and then fat tears began rolling down her flushed cheeks.

Her inner head was a horrible, surrealistic realm of chaotic negativity; she'd suffered inwardly to an extent where her outward sanity now was paying for it.

Bleddyn buried her face in her hands. Her back heaved with miserable, sputtering sobs and the abused desk shook violently.
"They're gone...stay...they're all gone...I have to...let me...stay...I-I have to...gone...gone...oh they're gone."
Peter shuffled his feet awkwardly. He wanted to comfort her, but didn't know how. "I'm.. I'm sorry." He whispered, knowing how pathetic it sounded, but unable to think of anything else. Then, he froze.
The corridor had gone quiet except for the horrible, repetitive beeping. The kids and teachers had all fled by now. But there were footsteps. Purposeful footsteps. Coming closer. Then, a bang on the door.
"Frick," Peter said under his breath, looking to Bleddyn. I gotta do something... something stupid. He reached out and grabbed Bleddyn's arm. He closed his eyes, breathed deeply, then snapped them open. The next thing they knew, both Bleddyn and Peter were out the window, Peter stumbling on the pavement, grabbing a pole and leaning against it.

Virio explained simply "Well, the guy at school, the idiot substitute, he had it on him. He seemed to be very involved in the Pure operations, and I've found out names of multiple Pure members, and a few locations of some of them. I can find some more if I tap into IP addresses..." His voice trailed off as he added somewhat more downcast, "I'm pretty sure the Pure will eventually shut down his phone, so I've written absolutely everything I've found so far in his phone in a notebook." He turned to her, before concluding "So yeah. I'm trying to get as much information as possible."

“Ok! That’ll be really helpful.” She said, smiling as she turned to face the trail. Her grin fell a bit as the bench came into view, devoid of her friends, and a pit of fear opened in her stomach. Shifting towards Virio and back into the relative safety of the pathway, she spoke. “Well, I guess we wait. I chose this trial ‘cause it’s rarely used, so we shouldn’t have to worry about random people coming through here. Oh, I forgot.” She pulled out her phone and entered Settings, switching a button. “Turn your location services off. The Pure might hack into our phones.” She placed her device back in her pocket and stepped off her rising hoverboard, sitting on it with her feet dangling just above the grass as it floated in place.

After successfully recognizing her surroundings to have changed drastically without her having to so much as flinch a tendon, Bleddyn stared dumbly at him for a long moment. Her blearly, bloodshot eyes underwent a rapid succession of blinks.
...what...
Then her stricken subconscious overpowered any regained sense of reality and she started crying harder.

Virio nodded simply, noting the shift in her mood, looking towards the bench with mild confusion. How was that affecting her...someone that was supposed to be here clearly wasn't, or perhaps she had seen something he hadn't. He followed her instructions, and turned off his location services. As an extra precaution, he placed it on airplane mode so no signals could be tracked any longer, and completely shut it down just to be sure. With that being said, he did the same to the Pure substitute teacher's phone as well, before he turned to her, explaining "Ready when you are.", his eyes spying the area surrounding them, attempting to distinguish whether or not they were being tracked at the exact moment in time.

Darn it. Peter gazed around blearily, looking for Indigo's car. He didn't see anything. "You know," he mumbled, starting to slide down the pole, "I just risked my life for-" He went limp, collapsing on the pavement.

(If anyone was wondering, Peter doesn't teleport other people often because it takes like 10x the effort to prevent them and him from being scrambled into a bunch of scattered molecules. XD)

Frosty's face went pale. "C'mon, c'mon! Respond!" He muttered, desperation clawing at his voice. Why isn't the Multitude base replying? They should be replying!

Toby looked up from where he was kneeling by Alpha. "Uh... is everything okay?" He asked, and instantly mentally smacked himself. No, it isn't okay. Mrs. Loson is dying, Wolfram is having a melt down, the Pure is planning on killing each other, and I can't do anything because I'm completely useless.

"The Multitude base isn't responding..." Frosty said, his usually brisk voice sounding quiet and defeated. "I-I don't know if the Pure got to them." He looked up, a spark of determination in his eyes. "You can drive, right? Well, there are plenty of Pure vans that they left behind. We can go check it out. The others can do... whatever they are going to do. C'mon," He started marching towards the nearest van.

Wolfram drew in a sharp, shaking breath, River's soft rasp drifting around him. He couldn't face her. He just couldn't. Not when the guilt was clawing the inside of him, dragging him down forcefully. But at the same time he just had to.
He turned to her slowly, forcing himself to lift his bruised face to look at her. "River...." He whimpered.
River winced as Wolfram lifted his bruised and utterly self-hating face to her slowly, whimpering her name like a wounded puppy. "Kid, I'm... Perfectly fine, it's okay. You didn't know... I was there." Her voice was broken up with sharp gasps of pain, but she tried to force a lighthearted grin to try and calm the boy. "I've taken bullets before... It'll take a lot more to... Kill me."

"No, no, no, no, no, no!" Wolfram sobbed, putting his hands on each side of his face. "It's not ok, it's not, it's not! I'm a monster...I'm a monster..." And a pathetic one at that. He felt so pathetic, so useless, and so weak, sitting there sobbing like a child. "It's not ok...it's not ok...I killed him...and I shot you....I shot you! You could die....I'm a murderer...." He choked on his words, his voice sounding frail and guilt-ridden.

"I- yeah, I can drive." Toby said, and looked around. "Uh, should we tell the others where we're going? I'm going to tell the others." He turned to the people around River. "The chicken and I are going to the Multitude base. They aren't responding, we're going to make sure the Pure didn't get to them."
