«We Could Be Legends»

Alec watched her speak with quiet interest. The woman reminded him of his mother, kind in her own way that wasn't quite so obvious to others. I have a brother.
Then he heard the name. The name his mother had spat so many times with disgust. The name he had heard discussed over and over while his parents talking never knowing he was hiding there in his small panther form. The one person his mother seemed to hate, even more then Silver.
"Wolfram?" His voice didn't waver this time, instead it took on a very cold tone. He ignored her question, never once blinking. "Wolfram is my half brother?!"
River nodded, keeping her un-wavering eyes on the boy. "Correct. I guess you've heard your mother speak of him before, I take it?" She murmured, her voice unchanging.
"I didn't like him at first, either. A little over dramatic in some ways, needs to keep his mouth shut sometimes, has a temper. But he grows on you, gets less annoying. Somehow." She said, giving Alec the same look as earlier, trying to pick up and analyzed his every movement. "Here's one piece of advice you'll always want to remember, Alec. When you meet someone new, be cautious, but be indifferent. Let what they do shape the way you think of them, not someone else's words. Learn them."

Toby shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut. “But it is. That kid doesn’t have a brother anymore, because of me. How is that not my fault?” Toby asked, opening his eyes to look at her. He was surprised he could actually see her face without breaking his neck. Like always, he didn’t look at her for long and dropped his gaze to the ground.
“But killing his brother was clearly the right thing to do,” Indigo said. Did I seriously say killing someone was the right thing to do?
“No. Let me rephrase that. It’s what you thought was best. It was the only thing to do. It was the only way to prevent more people from getting hurt.”
She touched his shoulder. “And no matter what you do, know that it won’t change my feelings about you. I’ll still care about you and so will the rest of us.” She paused, studying the way his dirt-smeared face twisted away from him. “And I don’t want to see you carry that guilt.”

Everything in Alec's body wanted to absolutely panic. Wolfram was his brother. But he didn't. Father's words echoed in his head, and he calm down, the emotion fading from his pale face. Some people are very good at reading others, Alec. Remember this. You cannot let them see through you.
"No." That's the only response that forced its way out. "I don't believe you. He can't be my brother. And why should I listen to you? I would rather listen to my mom then some stranger."
Lachlan whirled around to face him. "Thank God, you're back." He sighed, glancing at River and Alec. "So I went to see who that kid was, asked his named. Apparently it's Alec. But he asked me where his mom was. I asked him who she was." He shook his head. "Wolf, it's Mapleshade! He's her son. And that boy, that Toby shot? The one who Mom said killed Sherri? That was his brother. Mapleshade had two sons." He paused, turning back to Wolfram, looking into his sky blue eyes with his grassy ones, wondering how his friend would react to learning that he had brothers-- One being already dead.
"Wolf, I asked who their father was. He said it was Michael. He's got your brother."
Mapleshade had a son. Strike one.
Mapleshade had two sons, one which was dead. Strike two.
Said sons were his half-brothers. Strike three.
The knowledge of this drained the joy in his chest, his gaze snapped to Alec, the little boys face completely emotionless as he stared at River. But those eyes. He should have known. His eyes were all his fathers, and he had a face shape similar to his mothers. He should have known. But he couldn't quite believe it.
"I have a half brother!?" Wolfram stared at Lachlan with rounded eyes. "No...no, two half-brothers. That Shadow kid...he's dead...oh God..." He let his weight fall against the van, shaking his head. "I killed his parents." He knew it wasn't funny, but he gave a harsh laugh, looking back at Lachlan. "I killed his parents! I killed my own half-brothers parents!"
Harshly, he slammed the side of his fist against the van, swearing under his breath. "What am I supposed to do, Lachlan?"

Toby rubbed his face with his hands. “But it was wrong. The past couple days have all been so wrong.” He took a deep breath, dropping his hands to his sides. “I could’ve tried to convince him to join us. He was young, he didn’t know what he was doing. He would’ve listened. But I didn’t. I should’ve known something like this would happen, but I did it anyway.” Toby said, his foot tapping nervously on the ground.
He flinched as she touched him, closing his eyes again. He let out a quiet, nervous laugh, shaking his head. “You’re- you’re a great liar. It almost sounds like you mean that.”

Alice looked up with tears she'd been trying to hide standing in her eyes. "You didn't know?" She asked, using the heel of her hand to quickly wipe her eyes dry. "I'm-" She looked to the side, trying to determine just what she was. "I don't know. I'm fine I guess." She said, shrugging and wrapping her hands around her elbows. "I just don't know how we got here."
"Do you mean literally or..?" Crow asked gently. He had learned of what had happened to Tayn and Thomas, but decided that saying anything about that would not be helpful. Besides.. he was so close to breaking down himself. They had been his friends. He felt, for some reason, a sense of guilt. He'd been out of town. Maybe if he had been there..
No. I couldn't have done anything. And I can't think of that now. There's people that need help. And the Pure are still out there. He had been gazing at the ground, but looked up again at Alice. "You can tell me."

Alice shrugged, she didn't want to admit that something was wrong.
"I-" She sighed not sure how to explain. "I remember Fri-" She stopped mid-sentence maybe it wasn't the most recent Friday. "The third?" What month was it though maybe it was longer than she thought. "Of November? Clearly. And then there's things that don't seem to fit in anywhere. Like some random merwoman, and her cat. Or, I was at Jessi's? I don't know why, or how I got there. And we were looking for... The blue crystals..." She frowned the memory slowly coming back to her. "River was shot? And she was dying. And the crystal didn't work." Alice shook her head, how could that have happened? River was just over there and she was fine. "That's all I remember." She added quietly.

”I’m not a...” Indigo broke off. How could she say she wasn't a liar when she obviously was? ”If I was lying you wouldn’t know it,” she pointed out. Because your free will would be gone.
”I care about you Toby. Whatever you do, it couldn’t be any worse than me or my mother.”

Crow nodded slowly, a thoughtful look in his eyes. He didn't know much of what happened that had led to this, but he did know Alice was definitely missing some major events in her memories. "Do you know the date?" He finally asked, "I think you could've been attacked by the Pure. And that's how you lost your memory. Weird that it seems to affect no one else.." he mused.

Toby spontaneously combusted. He thought she must’ve been lying, but she said he wouldn’t know, which made him think she wasn’t lying, which could be exactly what she meant about him not knowing, which meant—
“How can you say that so... so confidently?” Toby asked, looking up at her. “If you knew even half of the things I’ve done, or was capable of doing, you would run faster than The Flash.” He scratched behind Alpha’s ear, and Alpha leaned closer towards him, his tongue lolling out the side of his mouth.

”I doubt it. Ok fine, tell me. What is the worst thing you’ve done? Cheated on a math test?” Indigo peered into the short guy’s eyes. He didn't seem capable of much. Meanwhile, I’ve made people do a lot of things. Every time I take control, I feel so bad about it afterwards.
