So, if I were to candle my eggs on day 5, I should discard any that are clear? I'm not sure if I want to play with them at all since it's my first batch, but I might take a couple out to see what I can see.

I'd wait a few more days to ditch the clears...just in case.
But I would candle now just to take a peek.

Do it.
You will see veins. Maybe a little dark spot moving. Maybe a heart beating. Veins are good.

I took a look at three of them. One looked clear, I think. The second looks like it has a large, discolored air pocket, the third has a really thick shell. I tried to take pictures, but no details came out in the pictures.

I love how thorough your posts always are.
I think it is a combination of both then. My eggs range from 8-12 grams but most are 11 grams. Also, my hand from fingertip to wrist is an inch longer that yours. I do have somewhat absurdly large hands for being 5’4”. Should have played the piano.

Ooh. I think I see veins and a slight bit of movement in the 4th. I'm going to leave them alone now.
