➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I love how thorough your posts always are. :gig
I think it is a combination of both then. My eggs range from 8-12 grams but most are 11 grams. Also, my hand from fingertip to wrist is an inch longer that yours. I do have somewhat absurdly large hands for being 5’4”. Should have played the piano.
8 seems tiny.
I don't think I've ever had one under 10 grams or even 10.

Yeah, I don’t know anything about the stock these birds came from. They were craigslist birds from a hobbyist type breeder is my impression. Though I didn’t see his operation myself. The birds themselves range from 212-280 grams. I’m working on sizing up my flock with jumbos from a quality breeder.

Yeah...not that much bigger.
Not like I expected/thought.

I'm counting on Nutty keeping good weight records on his Jumbos for me.

I do know that my single quail hatched from one of the smaller jumbo eggs.

Okay I'd still take black bears over rattlers  I think they technically...exist here. I've never ever seen one. Seems like a common occurrence for you guys!

Congratulations on the slaying! That one was mighty close for comfort.

Edit: black bears not brown bears. I'm accidentally inflating my bear cred, those things terrify me
I was talking to someone the other day who was hiking up on echo I think? 7000ft and they cake face to face with a 4 footer :th

If you bank your quail eggs are the yolks very pale and nearly white/gray? I hardboiled 16 quail eggs and everyone I have eaten so far is as I described. I was expecting tiny versions of the yolk in a chicken egg, which is very yellow when hardboiled.
No takers for this question?
I am wanting to know if it's normal before I start incubating the eggs.

I am getting bigger, healthier chicks from my older layers. I believe my “runts” are from my younger layers. personally I would wait until 2nd or 3rd week to start collecting for incubation. I’m noticing a definite size difference in my eggs collected now vs the ones I incubated in late May/early June. I do agree with R2Elk that the paleness may have been overcooking. we overcooked some of our first boiled! we do ours in the instapot for 3 min, then we let set for 3 min before venting and transferring to ice water. then if you shake them vigorously in water (watertight bowl with lid) they peel much easier.
