āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

Some days we get a little nutty...some days we do house work.
SOME days house work?? I wish I could do house work SOME days, not every day. Can't wait to get married. I am definitely quitting my vegetable garden next year.. no time for all these hobbies.
Oh, did you indicate that out of the 72 eggs that I set last week I ended up with 63 fertile?
And I am setting 8 eggs on Sept 22nd - male Tuxedo, female Pharaoh.

I sent all my white jumbos to freezer camp and refuse to hatch them again.
the Jumbo are best to eat right? As they have most meat? So you are breeding for eggs?

@Matieus27 if you are only breeding quail for meat why do you need sex-linked and why don't you breed Jumboes?

I have the quail for eggs and meat and having sex links allows me to watch the males and females separately weigh each sex separately so I can determine which I’m going to keep as breededs and which ones get turned into bbq quail

unfortunately....like everything in life, it works out on paper much nicer than reality. again, zack has a video specifically discussing hatching for self sustainability. for the sake of theory he only calculates a 50% overall hatch rate. there will be good hatches and bad hatches over time. you will probably want to use a 2 quail serving size for all adults and 1 for children in your initial calculations. personally, I try to allow for 12 per month going into freezer and ideally 12 eggs per day collected. this week i’ve had zero eggs again and i’m guessing it is due to shortened daylight. but other factors could be change in environment from putting the mulch in or eggs could have been eaten before i went to collect.
There are 7 of us in total your saying I should be figuring for 9 per week 2 per adult and 1 each child

Sorry i have been going to bed early but i was one of your late night shift til this week.

Would yall know that thing w the lump stickn out of its head is still kickin? I thought it would succumb or id see it starting to decline and need to cull but its thriving. Had to dab a tiny bit of blue-kote on it cuz the others startn tryn to figure out what it is and they got it to bleed :hmm

I shall call him Yummy from now on.
Oh I don’t work night anymore I got a new job doing what I actually went to school for and loving it

yes if planning as main course once weekly. if after first meal, you find that to be too much then you can make adjustments. for 3 adults that eat quail here, we typically put 5-6 per package in the freezer for dinners. If we breast them, we package the legs separately for breakfast, and if planning quail with breakfast will do halves and just dh and I each have a half with breakfast.

I do housework every day.
I was speaking for everyone here because I think there is at least one person who doesn't clean daily.
