➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I'm considering just buying a couple coturnix hens at the feed store instead of going through the trouble of hatching. I saw the feather sexing chart on the first page, is that ever inaccurate? Do hens ever have orange breasts or males white breasts with dark spots? I don't want any cocks.

I am thinking that my budgie flight will be a suitable home for two. It's 60" x 18" floor space (and 36" tall) and I am going to make a box with walls about 9 inches high out of coroplast panels to set the cage in so I can use wood shavings instead of newspapers at the bottom without them going all over the room.

Am I likely to run into issues with the birds flushing and hitting their heads with that height or are they pretty chill?
I hate my taller cage with a passion.
I will never use it again.
I find that it is too tall which gives the quail too much room to catch air and fly up.

My cage is two of that model together, with seven budgies in it. I was thinking they would use the floor space of it, and I wouldn't need another cage.

I used this cage for a hospital/jail cage.
I'm not sure if it is because the bird was alone but he was constantly flying like a maniac hitting his head.

None of my other quail do this with the lower roof cage.

I really believe that it is too high.

I would be afraid the quail would fly up and hit the other birds and possibly cause an injury.

You know what that cage is PERFECT for? Some budgies. :D

Or Cockatiels.

You need a parrot. Or several parrots. :D

I guess I won't know for sure until I try. Buttons are supposed to be flighty too, but mine are tame and don't jump up at all.
Are your buttons in a shorter / lower roofed cage?

This was my first time trying this cage and this quail ruined it for me I will not use it again.

It might just be that he was a little nuts cuz he was by himself.
