➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

lost 1 more 😭😭 I’m NEVER leaving chicks again!!! but we got some more work done today on expanding the koi pond....and while he may change his mind, DH has agreed to let me get a duck!!! he will use my netting over the koi pond area for swimming and it (or it and a friend) can always go in with the other birds during non-swimmy time! i figure i have some time while brooding to figure out all the logistics.......

Definitely it and a friend :) Ducks need to be with at least one other duck.

ok i guess 2 it shall be.....I was hoping that due to the other birds, I could get by with just 1 duck and possibly imprint it on me to be a pet.....dh actually said 3 and then we could send 1+ to freezer camp

@casportpony ......RK has khaki campbell ducklings and a yellow duckling (i didn’t pay attention to the breed). what should i look for in choosing a KC duckling??
A pee pot.
Make sure it doesn't have one.

I love my call ducks, but they are really loud. They are sweet and come running when I call for them. I've always had ducks; I also have Rouens, Pekins, and Swedish Blues. (Still love my calls the best)

First thing tomorrow morning go to the farm store and buy three little drakes. Tell hubby, "One is none; two is one; three is two and everyone knows it's inhumane to keep fewer than two ducks. Drakes are so cute with their raspy little voices. Ducks lay eggs it's true, but they also make an unearthly racket.

Any yellers?
No and not expecting any yellers. Parents are all MyShire Jumbos. Expecting all wild types. Looking for large ones to replace the 1 year old egg layers.

Collecting for QB#13 after this from the same parents. Went from 4 to 2 eggs a day with the same amount of light. I'm targeting 14 hours. Zack mentioned 18 hours a day for layers. Oh, well.

We will see how well this batch does. Hoping for 100%. :D

8 chicks hatched this morning, 9 eggs still in the incubator. One looks yellow in the pictures, but in person looks like it has faint pale gray markings on back of head and the back. Dunno if my eyes are playing tricks or not.
