➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

One of my chicks is zipping and 3 more have pipped, right on schedule! proof you don't need extra hygrometers and thermometers, and that sometimes the ones on the incubator are right!
All 12 have the same eyes. They paid a small fortune for these 🙈 i was just happy to have free roosters that are not black.

The first death layer cross in the incubator is all yellow
I just got my first chick too! Mine is a partridge penedesca crossed with a speckled Sussex. Another one is zipping- light Brahma, penedeseca cross.

that's all that matters, you have to like them not anyone else. so good for you. I am sure you will get some good birds soon!
I have lots of good breeds. I just sold all my crosses and now I'm left with only my purebreds. I like crossing them to make different colors and patterns.

People like my crosses more than anything else. It's so crazy to me.

NPIP testing was today. They have to do quail, so my pair got tested, though I have no way to know if they were actually four months old as required for testing. Quail are so different from chickens, I wouldn't doubt if a lot of big farms cycle through them fast enough that none ever get to four months old, so I wonder how they do their testing? Probably have to keep at least some back for that purpose.

But I'm good to go for another year now! Well, on pullorum. AI I'll have to have done again in October.

How much does it cost to get the testing done? I'm on the waiting list for NPIP certification, but they have yet to answer me when I ask how much it is for the testing.

You're in CA, right? I think they charge there, and I've heard it's expensive.

My state tests for free, so I can't help you with what the cost might be, sorry!

Show quality matters if you want to show them. I have absolutely no desire to do that, so I'm more interested in other things. I like a variety of colors and sizes, shapes, personalities. Maybe I'll end up accidentally making my own landrace--whoever can survive my climate and care gets to belong. A hardy group of poultry indeed! :lau

Nice mission, one of my life goals is to breed my own breed of chicken
