➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

yes today was another lesson for me in how RK is significantly lacking in the area of education!!! even the sales employee said she had almost talked her mom into letting her get a white turkey as a pet and theni burst her bubble by telling her that rk turkeys are bb and “meatbirds” only.....she had no idea heritage breeds even existed!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
when i complained last year about the permit issue, they assured me that every person was properly informed but yeah that’s a definite NO!!! they are only concerned with the sale.....not the aftermath!! 😭😭😭 the states and counties/cities are actively trying to prevent the irresponsible sales as are “concerned citizens” but as the Covid situation has taught us, you can’t stop the large corporations, you can only penalize and stop small business!
as far as pheasants....I would say 10+sq ft per bird would be sufficient but need to take extra care to prevent escape.....(and of course check your state permit requirements for gamebird) but as far as i know, reeves should pass in most states (except wyoming)...... i learned everything from @007Sean and the school of hard knocks!
Your making me blush muddy! I'm not an expert nor do I claim to be...I learned almost everything from the 'school of hard knocks', myself!
With pheasants and actually all gamebirds the more square footage they have the better off they will be, especially when combined with quality habitat in the enclosure.
ETA - the majority of my pens are 300 sq.ft. with 5 to 6 birds per pen. So they roughly have 50 sq.ft. per bird. Yep, overkill but I don't have alot of problems with my birds squabbling, fighting or diseases!

RK, TSC, etc...are allowed to sell them, it's up to the buyer to 'obtain' the permits required to keep gamebirds.
yup i need to find out when they expect to get more melanistic!! 🤣🤣🤣 or just order more myself.......but I did my “math” today and i’m currently over my “max” with 2 ducks, 2 pheasant, 4 turkey poults, and 2 rabbits (breeders) technically, they can’t count the coturnix, or “offspring” nor the budgies, finches, buttons 😉😉😉😉😉 (unless of course in the event of a complaint)......and then they can “bend” the rules to fit their agenda!!!

i’m not the only one who considers you the “resident expert” regarding pheasant although i may or may not be one of your biggest fans!!! I deem myself official president of the @007Sean fan club!! :love:love and the @ r2elk fan club, and the @ kiki fan club etc etc

well, I think that is what most companies are in for. as for regulations here in Washington state you need a game farm permit for species of pheasant in the genus phasianus. so reeves pheasants are excluded from that. The main reason I wanted a reeves pheasant is because my last name is reeves, and they are gorgeous

There are quite a few sellers on eBay right now offering mel eggs! Some are pretty good sellers, well packaged eggs and decent fertility, some of the others...not so much.;)

They are pretty birds but highly aggressive, towards other birds as well as people. :old

i vote “build it” and get them!!! I initially wanted “ornamental” pheasants in addition to my quail, but of course ringneck are much less expensive and easier to procure........i love mine and it was probably a wise decision in hindsight with the “learning curve” involved.......
