➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever tried GQF’s quail? They apparently have bobwhites and coturnix but they’re a tad bit pricey (though they do have deals if you get an incubator with them) but I’m mostly just curious what kind they have or if they’re any good??? Because the website doesn’t provide any details or pictures or anything like that. I assume they’re probably the wild type? Or jumbos maybe? A common kind? But I found it odd that it didn’t say, given how many different varieties they are. I thought if I ever did get quail it might be good to get some from them for genetic diversity but not if they’re not good. Just wondering.
GQF has breeders they contract with, they don't actually raise their own, they 'drop ship' the eggs. They will be Northern Bobwhites.

That makes sense!!! Thank you!!! I was wondering why an incubator company would raise quail. :lau

Do you know what kind of Cots they might have?? It says they have Bobwhites and Cots but doesn’t say what kind of Cots. Only eggs though, no chicks.

Doesn’t really matter or anything, was mostly just wondering.

I think Bobwhites are illegal here but might be good to get some Cots from them but there’s probably other, better, sources aha

Here’s little Wonky!

I assisted the hatch as it was just pipping holes all over the place and never zipped. Turns out it wasn’t positioned right.

Wonky has a wonky neck from the position it was in hence the name.

Hatched on Friday!

Wry necks can live decent lives. I had one that I kept until she got big enough to eat. I think she's the only hen I've ever sent to freezer camp, now that I think about it.

ooh! I’m thinking of getting some! Should I? Are their eggs really blue and beautiful? (I’m looking to add colors to our egg cartons)
Mine laid a very pale but still very pretty blue. The only thing I would add though is that I would not personally recommend legbars if you live in an urban area, as mine were quite noisy and easily spooked. I still loved their overall personalities though and thought the eggs were beautiful.

My Delaware hen is soooo loud when she wants to be lol as is one of my EEs!!!! The Delaware mostly just greets me loudly but the EE has the loudest freaking egg song ever LOL the longest too 😂🤣

Their egg song was loud, but the bigger issue was how frequently they would alarm call. Both the hens and the rooster were sooooo easily spooked. If there was an airplane, a squirrel, a suspicious breeze...they would get the whole flock riled up

Oh wow that’s crazy!! Haha thankfully mine don’t really alarm call, at least that I’ve noticed. They just run and hide. The other day I was trying to get my EE to come to me across an open area and she got about halfway and just turned around back to the bushes. Couldn’t figure out why at first but turned out there was a huge hawk that had flown by. She didn’t freak out or anything, just didn’t come any further haha the EEs are most away I’d say and the Leghorn but they’re not flighty about it thankfully. They just hide. Occasionally the EE will spook and scare everyone but not very often.

So i have 9 quail and only 2 eggs don’t have external pips! Let’s just say I’ll never order from anywhere but myshire.

We are rehoming the ducks today and trading for two bunnies 😍 ducks really aren’t for us. We really like chickens and quail. I will not get waterfowl again. They destroy everything of the chickens.

I’m really loving quail. We got their aviary semi done. They’ll be moving out there tomorrow or the next day.

This is good to hear because I used to think I wanted ducks just because they are so cute and personable and I still think I do eventually but they really are soooo messy that I’m just not sure haha I think it’s probably better if you have a pond or larger water source that doesn’t get dirty in two seconds. 😂🤣
