Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
:caf “Most” eggs (of 23) are “looking good” so far. One more week. :caf That’s tomorrow, right?

Chicks are about ten-days-old, and they need the brooder changed. I will hopefully toss them out next week. I don’t like having multiple brooders.

Here is the 3rd tub I just cleared out of the Hatcher. I cleared a tub late last night and a tub early this morning. Had to hotshot a load of pipe to SE KS and just got home to clear these guys out. In a couple hours I’ll put all 3 tubs plus whatever else hatches into a 4x4 brooder for the next week week. Don’t ask how many because I have no idea.

He is dumb.
:love

You have him pegged. We often tell him he is lucky he is sweet and pretty cuz there is nothin' going on up there. His most useful application is as a sherpa-dog, just set him in front of a mountain and hang on to the end of the lead while he does all the work getting you up it!

Because of a health risk involved in the vaccine? I was curious as I’ve read quail are more susceptible to disease than ducks. So I wandered if people ran into issues. I’d hate to invest in several hundred quail just to have them die.
Ulcerative Enteritus is the main disease quail are most susceptible to, as long as you have clean fresh water, they do fine.
Overcrowding, filthy water and feed contaminated with feces is the primary cause for the disease. UE can wipe an entire flock out in a matter of days.
