➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I've been thinking and I'm not understanding something.
I am pretty sure that I saw a couple bullseyes before I set my eggs and I'm pretty sure I saw a bullseye in an egg laid yesterday.

Is it possible that one can lay a fertile egg one day and a non fertile egg the next?

Could I have only one hen laying these couple of fertile eggs I've seen?

Could more than two be laying even though I'm only getting two eggs a day (besides the two days I got 3 eggs)?

All good questions. A hen that laid a fertile egg one day and not the next, isn't likely due to the fact the male is still with the hens. One mating will last for 10 to 14 days without mating again, and still have the potential for fertile eggs. It could be though the sperm didn't get enclosed in with the ovum when passing through the oviduct.

The one hen scenario is possible.

And your last question is also plausible. The hen may skip a day before laying again.

Getting to the max range. You certainly don't want to keep them at anywhere near freezing, at 32°F it will kill them. I store mine in egg cartons in a cool room. As long as it's not above 73°F, at which point eggs will start to incubate, your ok, I've even stored them in 80°F for a day or 2 without any harm....as long as you don't go below that temp before setting them in the bator.
