➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

We were talking about supplemental lighting a while back. I happened across this (below) and though it’s about geese, I thought it might be something to consider with lighting quail and other birds. For geese, Holderread says as little as one hour’s reduction in 24 can severely curtail laying (and in males, fertility.) I’m guessing geese are more sensitive to this since they’re not so highly bred to lay, lay, lay, but something to consider all the same.

And here’s the reason I’m so interested in geese::wee

We stopped by Runnings for some mealworms and of course I had to look at the babies. My geese were there!!! They hadn’t called me yet; they were busy unloading all the babies. I saw my name on them and I just squealed like a little girl. I was SO excited, and I hardly ever get excited over anything, good or bad. I wish I did—it’s fun—but I’m just not that way. I was excited about these sweeties, though! They’re American Buff—three geese and a gander. :ya:celebrate:ya They’re . So . FLUFFY!!!

Thank you! Tomorrow is day 18, we'll see. I'm still kind of experimenting with various incubation procedures and this ended up being the 'mostly ignore them' batch partly through intention and partly through necessity.
yeah each batch here gets simpler yet more complex! my problem is that this time not having ordered the 2nd large bator, my janoelle 12 is barely housing the 30 sex-link (they are big eggs) and I put my 10 chicken eggs in the big one. i go into lockdown on assorted quail and 7 chicken tomorrow and all chicken eggs are developing so i guess I will just leave them without turning until hatch is over and risk any losses?? i didn’t really think this one out too well!!
