What do you think about honeysuckle?
Honeysuckle will also destroy a fence or a wire structured pen. The trunk grows by winding it's way through the mesh. Over time it will embedd the wire into it's trunk and vines.
Trumpet vine and hummingbird vines will do the same ...I find it's easier just not to plant it anywhere near a pen. I learned the 'hard way' :lau had to completely tear out all the vines and rebuild the pens.

Are nightshade stalks/leaves toxic for critters? I feel like I have heard that.

Making progress! Other eyeball free! Have to go in stages still, he is right and proper glued up so the water is having a hard time reaching all the spots at once.

Leaves of plants belonging to the nightshade family (tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes, etc.) are poisonous. Small amounts are not fatal and the plant leaves are usually avoided by poultry but I would not put them in my run.
The birds planted tomatoes last year. I cage them off and had fresh cherry tomatoes with dew most mornings. They left the leaves alone until the first frost, then game on and ate everyone they could reach. Impressive. Left them alone all summer. The tomatoes, though. We love tomatoes. The vines got huge. Something about fertilizer? ;)
