➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

That color in your profile picture is beautiful. I love it!

You might have to install one of those “Ring” doorbells for your coop. It turns video on to your phony when there is activity or motion. You can talk to them through your phone and yell at them!!:lau Scare them off from anywhere??:gig:confused:

Ha, yeah, we've got nest cameras on both the real doors, but I've gotta get another for the garage, that would be handy. Even me physically going onto the porch to yell and stomp at them does nothing. Hence the firecrackers!

:thstill just the 1 pip....some real slow pokes here!! I will definitely be recalibrating my temp at the end of this hatch!! I was going to double check it last night with the oral thermometer but unfortunately it got “misplaced” during the March illness here.

@CoturnixComplex  about the attempted break-in:hugs
do you report these incidents to fish and game?? relocation?? we only have the extremely rare occurrence of a bear sighting where a rogue has crossed the river so I cannot even imagine!!

We do, but unfortunately it's pretty par for the course up here. Unless they get many many complaints about the same bears or there's an actual injury they kind of just get treated like giant raccoons. Plus, relocate one and four more move in! This town is the dumpster hotspot of the entire Sierras.

I had one running in that room. I still had issues. I'll be happy when I can shut the furnace off for awhile.

Same! It's the worst! :barnie

Holy Smokes! If they’re gonna treat them like giant raccoons, then they ought to add them to the varmit permits. I hear they’re better eating than raccoons, at least.

I'm as bad a hunter as I am a farmer, I have a basement bunny and a garden squirrel too.

and with it being california....the laws won’t let you protect yourself much less your livestock.....(sorry sticky subject there!)

I have actually found the opposite in my research...technically I can use lethal force to defend myself or property as long as they're in imminent danger. And we have stand your ground. But, being CA as you said, I would definitely believe this was a constantly-shifting goalpost!

Luckily they're beautiful and I'd never want to unless they were eating me or my cats anyways. I fully support predator control but I personally would be too sad after seeing them grow up from little basketball babies.

51970AB5-9145-4629-98BB-110EB5104C30.jpeg I sooooo don’t want to be at work today! I’d rather be home obsessing over my incubator as I did all night in my dreams!! My pip had progressed a bit this morning but still this way around 12:30 with no other pips noticeable! day 18/22 doesn’t start until after 7pm but I’m sooooo impatient!

Ten of my (chicken) eggs are either definitely or possibly developing. Several are really dark, so I’m not certain. I’m happy about that considering the eggs were shipped over a weekend and then also delayed on top of that. And not very well packed. :barnie And of course considering this is a practice run for me to learn how to do incubating so I’m not a complete newbie when I do get quail eggs. I definitely don’t need more chickens at the moment. Oh, but I WANTS them! :love I WANTS them!

So, here’s my question: it’s day 13. Should I toss the clears (that I can tell for sure),or give them a few more days?

In other news: Winter had better go the heck away :rantor else WHAT am I supposed to do with 26 meaties that have more than quintupled in avg. weight (as of yesterday) and can’t stay in their super-sized tote much longer? :rant
