➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I started with 75 quail eggs, shipped from Virginia. They were nicely packaged in foam. Tossed 36 clears on day 10. I had a few I couldn't see well, so I left those in, so 39 went into lockdown. Had 29 hatch. I think that's all I'm going to get, but I'll leave them in there another day. Hopefully I don't have more roos than hens. But I don't mind eating them :D

Ten of my (chicken) eggs are either definitely or possibly developing. Several are really dark, so I’m not certain. I’m happy about that considering the eggs were shipped over a weekend and then also delayed on top of that. And not very well packed. :barnie And of course considering this is a practice run for me to learn how to do incubating so I’m not a complete newbie when I do get quail eggs. I definitely don’t need more chickens at the moment. :oops: Oh, but I WANTS them! :love I WANTS them!

So, here’s my question: it’s day 13. Should I toss the clears (that I can tell for sure),or give them a few more days?

In other news: Winter had better go the heck away :rantor else WHAT am I supposed to do with 26 meaties that have more than quintupled in avg. weight (as of yesterday) and can’t stay in their super-sized tote much longer? :rant
I'd toss. You should see something for sure by day 13.

1B1EC1A2-7D3E-4C7B-BDFA-5BD2524EF454.jpeg The 1 hatched!! Turns out it was an early bird!! Looks like daddy was the BO! It finally hit me tonight that I entered the quail hatch on day zero which means that I may have entered the chicken egg set date wrong!! so I think I was off by 24 hours (and they are slow pokes!!) :lau:pop

I am on the other end of the spectrum, thought the hatch was over, stopped checking quite as often, and then got a 30+ hr late baby that spent too long in the incubator and got splayed leg. Why do I have to keep Learning Lessons?! :he
i’m kinda scared of what my miscalculation may have done?? extra day in lockdown....me freaking out, etc.....it’s now ticked to next day and still nothing from any other eggs.....this chick is starting to cheep now so hopefully that will encourage the slowpokes to get started!
:confused::confused:

i can’t take full credit.....as everything I’ve learned about hatching has been on backyard chickens!!! I started with the halloween hatch-a-long and this is my 3rd chicken and 6th quail hatch.....2 different “cheap” incubators! :old
Can I ask you one more question? I’ve noticed that the center of my incubator is 97.3 degree while the corners and the sides of the turner is at 101.8. And this is when I set the temp of the incubator to 102.5. I try to “balance” the difference.

What would you recommend that I do? Will 101.8 be too high and/or 97.3 be too low? I also plan on rotating the eggs every 3 days or so.

I’m a bit stressed! Thanks so much!
